its starting to get really really really cold! and its still autumn! this weather is insane. was in town today for class and we stopped by imag1nation which was having a sale! got this coat/jacket thing! its pretty and i think it looks quite nice. hahaha!

the furry stuff at the collar is detachable. =) look good eh? shall exercise more and make it look even better! i've been diligently exercising these few days (just because there's international night on saturday!) and hopefully this enthusiasm will last for a long while more! winter's making me really hungry. oh wait. its still autumn!

back from my 3 days on bruny island! =) feel so relaxed and refreshed. kinda like a retreat after our easter break was taken away by the horrible exam.

spent monday morning at the Snug Medica1 clinic and snug villag3 which is an aged care facility. had a short chat with the people there and some residents to gain an insight into what it is like to live in a rural community.
was there super early because some kiasu team leader thought it would take forever to get to snug from hobart when in actual fact, it took 35min! so we were like 1h early. headed over to the beach which we discovered by accident (above). beautiful eh?

anyway, to avoid boring you people, i shall just go on to the more interesting parts of my trip. ;) headed over to bruny island at about 2pm and had the entire day to ourselves!

our team of 4 on the ferry to bruny! car's in the lower deck.

headed over to the oyster farm where i was the only one eating! i thought australian's love their seafood! guess not oysters. what a pity! they were awesome as always!

my half a dozen oysters in a recyclable box.

next up was the neck of bruny!

on the left is adventure bay while its another bay on the right. hahaha we're on north bruny and in the background's south bruny!

went across to south bruny and visited the fudge factory and berry farm! unfortunately, i though we were going back to the fudge place again so i didnt take any pics of the place. =( but here's the berry farm!

fresh blueberries, strawberries and half a scoopy of blackberry cheesecake and half a scoop of boysenberry! kamal went a little more with a scoop of double cream.thats 7500 strawberry plants!

after our little touristy tour of the place, we headed over to our accomodation! explorer's cottages! awesome place that's well equipped! ducks! wood7 looking amazed at them! unfortunately, he was woken up at 6am by them the next day!

living room and little kitchen with a balcony outside where you can see ducks!

erm my messy room. thats actually two single beds joined together. hehehe.

bruny's so boring at night that we resorted to taking unglam pictures! thats me being bored and sad at having nothing to do!

the next day was spent at the community health clinic and the bruny is1and primary scho0l.this is the community health clinic that does not have a resident GP. thats the problem when your usual island population's only about 650. GP comes over twice a week and they're totally booked out!

services available!

school! thats probably like half the school already. just another 2-3 similar blocks. the smaller one on the right's the library i think.

kids in the background waiting to go home!
we realised how small the bruny island community is when we met one of the volunteer ambulance officers at the school (he helped us to take the group photo) because he's also the school bus driver! and then we headed over to the vineyard, only to find that one of the kids' parents own the place! hahaha! had wine tasting. tried the riesling from north of hobart, the unwooded white, wooded white, pinot noir 2008 and pinot noir 2007 reserve. the unwooded white was really nice though! but didnt get any because i dont really drink.

we went swimming in cloudy bay after that. very last minute decision. it was a miniature red sea! there was red algae in the water. think of the 'pong dai hai' in the cheng tng, just that its red, floating in the water! didnt take a picture because we were in the sea! its a great place to surf but it was freezing! was just getting used to it when the guys decided to back out. boo!

headed back after that to rest for the day.

this morning, the volunteer ambulance officer brought the ambo over for us to see what's inside! was listening to the radio trying to sort out road accidents etc.

ambo with the stretcher out. the lady of the post office told us about the remnants of the hobart floating bridge which was the longest floating bridge back in those days. all excited about it, we walked over, only to be greeted by this!

err. how's that floating?!

met up with the girls at the cheese factory company! that's the C2 cheese maturing in there! lovely cheese although its expensive because it's by weight. =( the O.D.O was lovely too. oh how do i know? cheese tasting! had all sorts of cheese! goat cheese, cow cheese, cheese washed in brine and pinot noir and wrapped in grapevine leaves, cheese with rind, one day old (O.D.O) in olive oil with herbs etc. drooling yet? ;)

so what does it mean to be living in a rural area? check out the photo below. imagine living in that house there! yup! there you go! =) anyone up for it now?

we checked out the grocery store and it was sad. even the full cream milk was expired! =S had to get the low fat one instead. haha!

i will be off to rural week tmr!

will be staying on bruny island for two nights! it's gonna be fun! =)

so looking forward to wednesday!

tom yum tang hoon. turned out that my beehoon was actually tanghoon. HAHA!

WAS supposed to be vege with oyster sauce. damn i need garlic and cornstarch.

as usual, i can't estimate for nuts. too much water. and the ayam brand oyster sauce tastes/smells more like vegemite. hmm. should have gotten the LKK one instead although it was slightly more expensive. =( still better than the woolies one i guess. chicken essence.

added one small packet of honey to it too! yummy.. slightly sweet and fragrant. i like...

ok i just realised my blog is becoming like a food blog.

nvm. the last possible thing that can go up now is my tomyum beehoon. =P

thats until i go down again to get my chrysanthemum and luo han guo.. hehehehe..

my first ever attempt at making barley water!
not bad for a start. although i have no idea how much barley to add! and for that little pot, i had like 7 sachets of sugar! is that normal?!
ended up with one cup (above) plus half of my thermos cup. =) happy happy.

living overseas makes you appreciate the little pleasures in life. like barley water.

maybe i'll buy the chrysanthemum and luo han guo too! hehe see how.

boiling it for a second time. make full use of it! with less water of course. =)

bought tom yum paste, beehoon, instant oats, chai sim and oyster sauce too!

maybe i'll cook the chai sim over the weekend considering how i'll be away at bruny and snug next week! unless.. i bring them over and cook! =) wahahaha! that will be cool!

will be staying mon and tues night so will only be back on wed night! =)

now for my homemade condensed milk for my barley seeds!

1. pour milk and bring to a boil
2. reduced to half the volume
3. add sugar to taste
4. boil till required consistency
5. strain (because you'll get all those milk skin things)
6. store for up to 3 weeks!

tada! ok ignore the burnt part alright? its the sugar! and the volume was too small. was soo yummy! can't believe i'm actually cooking by myself!

mummy aren't you proud of me? =)

finished product! just barely enough to coat all my barley seed. which is alright considering how sweet it actually is. hehehe..

yummy....

presenting to you, my lunch for today! =)

went down for lunch and it was bad. carrot soup?! and cold lunch on a cold rainy day. just great.

came up and decided to cook my ddeok bok ki! spicy rice cake! =)

unfortunately i didnt kope any ingredients from the salad bar so its just rice cake and the sauce.

yummyy... spicy too! awesome!

i'm a happy little girl.

hello! i'm back from wineglass! =)

so tired right now.

although the hike up was less tiring than before. maybe its psychological. cos i was expecting myself to DIE. hahah!

so glad its now over and i can finally concentrate on my books! =) feeling more at ease right now, now that i'm in touch with my books once more. you dont know how insecure i was feeling!

most of the pictures are in everyone else's camera so i'll just leave you with a few from my camera.

jac3 and br7an.

sinhu1 and i! =) miss this girl so bad!

the weather was awesome! sun, sea and the sand! was walking along the beach with the waves splasing up to my knees. freezing at first but got used to it after a while. tried to walk to the end of the beach but realised we wouldnt make it back in time.

note: the end of the beach is somewhere between just1n's and br7an's head in the photo above.

went seashell picking and they're hugeee as compared to what you will find in singapore i guess!

no i didnt pick up the eraser too. its MINE.

The family is sitting at the dinner table.

The son asks his father, "Dad, how many kinds of boobies are there?"
The father, surprised, answers… "Well son, there's three kinds of breasts.

In her twenties, a woman'sbreasts are like melons, round & firm.
In her thirties & forties, they are like pears, still nice, but hanging a bit.
After fifty, they are like onions."

"Onions?"

"Yes, you see them, and they make you cry."

This infuriated his wife and daughter so the daughter says, "Mom, how many types of "willies" are there?"

The mother, surprised, smiles and answers. "Well dear, a man goes through three phases.

In his twenties, his willie is like an oak tree, mighty and hard.
In his thirties & forties, it's like a birch tree, flexible but reliable.
After his fifties, it is like a Christmas tree."

"A Christmas tree??"

"Yes dear, dead from the root up and the balls are for decoration only."

i think we're gonna play laser tag and arcade tmr morning!! =) yay!

its $12 for 2h unlimited! this is probably one of the better deals around considering how one arcade game already costs $2.

i'm feeling less stressed about the exam right now considering i have been studying but somehow i'll always feel inadequate. like there's something missing. like i could have studied harder or i shouldn't have done this and that. there's always guilt in exams. and i really hate it. and you'll only feel better once u see your results, assuming that you've done well.

and then you forget all about that feeling and happily go on with life till you get to the next exam.

the long 3 months hol and thus long 'hiatus' from exams has made me a little more frightful of it. maybe because the workload is much heavier this time around. its scary but at the end of the day, no matter how hard things are, we'll get through them. and then we'll look back and think that it wasn't that bad after all. how did we survive that?

i've done some mcq questions from past years and looked through the SAQs. i think i'll be fine. probably just need to go through the stuff once or twice more to get it really ingrained into my brain.

questions/quizzes are awesome ways to test yourself. even talking to your friend about stuff makes you think and then helps you remember so much better. =)

for now, i'll just go sleep on my notes and hopefully some stuff will diffuse in. hahaha!

oh yeah. forgot to mention this!

i got invited to join the 'Golden Key International Honour Society'!

it's for the top 15% in uni and it has university chapters in australia, canada, malaysia, new zealand, south africa, UAE and the US!

decided to join it since the vice-chancellor wrote a letter to accompany the invitation. =P

forgot to flip the letter over to see when is the date for the certificate presentation so i just said that i'm not attending. now that i know when it is, i guess i could have attended it! =( nooo.... oh well.

its easter break!!!

woohoo!~

despite the shitty timetable, i'm feeling quite happy actually. =)

80s/90s on friday night! it was awesome! miss these people so so much! this yr is so different with s1nhui, an1ta, r7an etc! =( oh well, life goes on but it's awesome to be able to meet up and hang out with them once in a while.

the songs they played were a little dodgy cos i didnt know almost half of them despite it being 'my era' but i think the song that got me really high for a while was 'hit me baby one more time' because i actually knew the lyrics! and almost the whole hall was singing along! haha! no one was really dancing.

this is the first time i actually enjoyed a jane party. its the company that matters. really. the songs can be like shit but if you're with good friends, its all that matters!

as to why my dressing is so err.. was thinking of the neon theme alright! hahaha! neon green headband with neon pink top. was too cold that night to go without the white top.

suman and sinhu1's birthday! suman had a pair of starry blue elton-johnish glasses while sinhui1 had bunny ears (EASTER!!). so cute!

ashl3y and just1n arent in the photo because they came late. anyway, the pizza was awesome! they came in halves so 2 pizzas had 4 flavours!

we had tasmanian seafood, thai seafood, smoked salmon/brie cheese and satay chicken! we shared this among 3 of us. and we still couldnt finish it. hahaha! we had complimentary garlic bread pizza in the beginning too!

i love walking back at night. the numbing cool breeze and the stars just make it oh-so-romantic. but only if we're in a group. no way will i walk back by myself!

this yr is starting to look more interesting. thank goodness. =)

thats the view outside my window this morning!

not sure if you can see but there's snow on the mountain! =)

blardy mist.

hahaha!

school starts at 3pm today with only one tut! awesome! but there's SS5 mtg later on. and the easter camp is now a day trip! yay! which means i've more time to study and there's less stuff to worry about. whee~!

easter break starts this thurs! so its a 3 day wk this week! rather slack if i can say so myself. loving it quite a bit because that means i can use the time to study. hahaha!

its so horrible how the easter break is now a SWOTVAC for us all. =( its meant to be a holiday!!

how pathetic. boo!

80s/90s tonight!

first party of the year! for me.

and probably the last (for this semester). hahaha!

only reason why i'm going is because i need to relax a bit and besides, i've finished most of my work already. and there're people i know going so it's going to be fun! =)

and its dress up! although i'm not sure how i'm going to look. hahahah!

hope its gonna be fun!

whee~!

Thursday, April 02, 2009

michelle is officially stressed over her mid semester exam on 16th april.

she doesn't want to go for easter camp but has no choice.

she has learnt as much this semester (thus far) as she did last semester.

this is not good.

not liking this one bit at all.

thankfully, this semester is a little more logical than last semester.

phew.

a must-watch!

Sunday, March 29, 2009

another insane week ahead!

the timetable reads 30h. madness. another week of many many lectures again. just because they cancelled before. oh well. guess its now or never. i'd rather be bombarded now than later on and realise i've not enough time to revise or something.

today was cricket/softball finals. girls lost against fisher but guys won. anw as usual, barbaric behaviour was witnessed during dinner. table banging (for the fun of it) and players running in in triumph (hopefully). but somehow this year seems more rowdy. it was quite funny cos we were seated next to this group of 5 girls and all of us looked at each other and we shared the same sentiment about their behaviour! its like b.i.m.b.o.! to the max.

oh well.

age gap age gap. HAHAHA.

okok back to pharm log book. tmr's the vivas! jiayou jiayou!!

  1. airway anat 1
  2. airway anat 2
  3. URTI
  4. Antiplatelet drugs
  5. Viral Respiratory Infections
  6. biochem markers in MI
  7. Pulmonary circulation
  8. anticoagulant
  9. food allergies
  10. asthma
boo. long week ahead..

Saturday, March 28, 2009

this is my 500th post! i've come a long long long way i guess. =) chronicling my transient existence here. always thought it would be so awesome if one day, your decendants (be it children, grand*xchildren) can read about what their ancestors did once upon a time. when people still cooked using fires and drove cars running on petrol.

scary isnt it? it's like everyone can become an Anne Frank. a diary that one day can be read by thousand even after your time. pictures of your ancestors all over the web. pictures/videos of what life was now back then.

just realised that i'm probably going to chronicle my medical student life and beyond here. maybe when i reach the beyond stage, i might just stop blogging publicly. all the various rules governing patient anonymity etc. maybe if my life outside work isnt as boring as i think it might be, then there's a chance that i will still continue i guess.

kind of need something to remind me about my life. my memory's so bad. about my achievements, my victories, my sorrows.

its 11am on sat and i'm left with two lectures which are probably going to take up quite a lot of time. thorax anatomy and ischaemia/infarction. plus i've gotta do my pathology tut and revise for my pharmacology viva interview on monday too. busy busy!

but thankfully everything's working out just fine. i'm so happy. =)
