back from my 3 days on bruny island! =) feel so relaxed and refreshed. kinda like a retreat after our easter break was taken away by the horrible exam.
spent monday morning at the Snug Medica1 clinic and snug villag3 which is an aged care facility. had a short chat with the people there and some residents to gain an insight into what it is like to live in a rural community.

was there super early because some kiasu team leader thought it would take forever to get to snug from hobart when in actual fact, it took 35min! so we were like 1h early. headed over to the beach which we discovered by accident (above). beautiful eh?
anyway, to avoid boring you people, i shall just go on to the more interesting parts of my trip. ;) headed over to bruny island at about 2pm and had the entire day to ourselves!

our team of 4 on the ferry to bruny! car's in the lower deck.
headed over to the oyster farm where i was the only one eating! i thought australian's love their seafood! guess not oysters. what a pity! they were awesome as always!

my half a dozen oysters in a recyclable box.
next up was the neck of bruny!

on the left is adventure bay while its another bay on the right. hahaha we're on north bruny and in the background's south bruny!
went across to south bruny and visited the fudge factory and berry farm! unfortunately, i though we were going back to the fudge place again so i didnt take any pics of the place. =( but here's the berry farm!

fresh blueberries, strawberries and half a scoopy of blackberry cheesecake and half a scoop of boysenberry! kamal went a little more with a scoop of double cream.

thats 7500 strawberry plants!
after our little touristy tour of the place, we headed over to our accomodation! explorer's cottages! awesome place that's well equipped!

ducks! wood7 looking amazed at them! unfortunately, he was woken up at 6am by them the next day!

living room and little kitchen with a balcony outside where you can see ducks!

erm my messy room. thats actually two single beds joined together. hehehe.

bruny's so boring at night that we resorted to taking unglam pictures! thats me being bored and sad at having nothing to do!
the next day was spent at the community health clinic and the bruny is1and primary scho0l.

this is the community health clinic that does not have a resident GP. thats the problem when your usual island population's only about 650. GP comes over twice a week and they're totally booked out!

services available!

school! thats probably like half the school already. just another 2-3 similar blocks. the smaller one on the right's the library i think.

kids in the background waiting to go home!

we realised how small the bruny island community is when we met one of the volunteer ambulance officers at the school (he helped us to take the group photo) because he's also the school bus driver! and then we headed over to the vineyard, only to find that one of the kids' parents own the place! hahaha! had wine tasting. tried the riesling from north of hobart, the unwooded white, wooded white, pinot noir 2008 and pinot noir 2007 reserve. the unwooded white was really nice though! but didnt get any because i dont really drink.
we went swimming in cloudy bay after that. very last minute decision. it was a miniature red sea! there was red algae in the water. think of the 'pong dai hai' in the cheng tng, just that its red, floating in the water! didnt take a picture because we were in the sea! its a great place to surf but it was freezing! was just getting used to it when the guys decided to back out. boo!
headed back after that to rest for the day.
this morning, the volunteer ambulance officer brought the ambo over for us to see what's inside! was listening to the radio trying to sort out road accidents etc.

ambo with the stretcher out. the lady of the post office told us about the remnants of the hobart floating bridge which was the longest floating bridge back in those days. all excited about it, we walked over, only to be greeted by this!

err. how's that floating?!
met up with the girls at the cheese
factory company! that's the C2 cheese maturing in there! lovely cheese although its expensive because it's by weight. =( the O.D.O was lovely too. oh how do i know? cheese tasting! had all sorts of cheese! goat cheese, cow cheese, cheese washed in brine and pinot noir and wrapped in grapevine leaves, cheese with rind, one day old (O.D.O) in olive oil with herbs etc. drooling yet? ;)

so what does it mean to be living in a rural area? check out the photo below. imagine living in that house there! yup! there you go! =) anyone up for it now?

we checked out the grocery store and it was sad. even the full cream milk was expired! =S had to get the low fat one instead. haha!
