5 more days till i go back! OMG! 5 more only?!
Having mixed feelings once more considering I wouldn't be coming back in July this year. =( But it's going to be an exciting year with GHC, AMSA convention etc! woots! Hobart is going to be happening for once! But of course how can it beat last year's at Brisbane when they went to Movie World etc?! SIAN!
School starts 1st Feb with all the orientation stuff and probably teaching for the various rotations but we wouldn't be on the wards yet. That would start in 2nd week I think. Gotta get all the paper work done ASAP when i get back. All the forms that are in my email.. LOL!
Teaching commences: 9am, Monday 1st Feb.
Monday holidays: 8th February, 8th March.
Easter break: Friday 2nd April - Sunday 11th April, inclusive.
Mid-year break Saturday 19th June - Sunday 27th June inclusive.
Mid-semester break Saturday 21st August - Sunday 29th August inclusive.
and that's all I've got! BOOHOO! Of course there's the november break as well but not sure when that would start. Probably mid-end november!
Haven't been updating much when I'm back. Did I even update about my Japan trip?! HMM. Oh well, life in Singapore is pretty much the same anw.
OH went for this talk about the new residency programme in Singapore and it sounds interesting but there would be heaps of formative assessments and stuff (almost every 6 weeks) which would be CRAZY but it's much shorter than the traditional route. We'll see what happens.
Was calculating the pay based on 80h-week and it ends up as $10/h only! WHATTTT!! Basic pay is $2690 + 110-130/call which is about 6x/month so ~$3200. OUCH! No wonder they were saying it was like Mai Dang Lao pay.

omg today is probably the happiest day of my life (in a while)!
simply because the bubble just got sweeter! hahaha! this yr has been going great so far! alright back to my point.
i got one of the biggest/highly coveted after rooms at college!!! omg im so happy! seriously if you guys ever come over to tassie this yr, you can just bunk in with me. i've got a double bed and more space to spare still! woots! rmb my delight when i found out i got 024 last yr? well 035 is so much awesome-er!
the reasons why i'm on cloud nine-ty!

the reasons why i'm on cloud nine-ty!
- everyone wants this room
- it's ginormous
- it's got a powerful overhead heater unlike my previous panel heater where you can only feel the heat when u stand near to it (although it still sort of heats the room up nonetheless)
- it's got a big and long table with overhead shelves!
- it's in between the pantry and toilet (not bath)
- my room is almost technically ensuite because once i exit my room door, the toilet door is REALLY just to my left.
- it's still connected to the dining hall so that means another year of not having to leave the building at all during study breaks!
- i can actually skip in my room now because the ceiling is high and i do not need to worry about hitting the lights anymore
- it's got a double bed (as mentioned above)
- i can buy a projector and project my movies onto the wall. (not that i would be yeah i COULD!)
- enough space to put a fridge, sofa tv set etc. studio apartment anyone?
and the list goes on. hahaha do i sound too excited about a room?
seriously this morning when i woke up to check my email to see if they had replied with my room no, it was ALMOST like checking my exam results! only that this happiness can almost rival achieving a HD for my exams! muahahaha!
went out to get bedsheets for my double bed. loves.
hopefully i'll make good use of the space and get more exercise done. exercise corner perhaps? right now i only have a stepper, yoga mat, skipping rope. and err the resistance bands that came with the stepper.
okok all the excitement is making me really tired now. till laters guys!

Have you ever wished that your dreams would all come true this instant because everything seems too perfect to be true?
I have. And I don't want to wake up from this little bubble that I've created for myself. Life's too beautiful inside it. Nothing can get me down as long as I'm in this little fantasy world of mine. =)

food food food. home-cooked and outside food. that's the bad thing about having classes in town. you ditch your soggy sandwich for hot naan with curry and papadum.
good thing about being overseas is that you don't have to spend money on people's 21st birthday presents which would have cost a bomb!
good thing about being overseas is that you don't have to spend money on people's 21st birthday presents which would have cost a bomb!
15.What did you get really, really, really excited about?

finally watched avatar!! NICEEE!!!! =) watched it in malacca on christmas for only RM11. shiok! didn't do much sightseeing at all. basically ate and ate and ate. not that i'm complaining. dimsum twice, A&W, assam laksa etc. yummy!
i'm feeling a little upset that there's only about 1 month left till i go back to tassie. nooooo... =( this holiday have gone by too quickly! been feeling too lazy to go out. not much to do anyway besides watching movies and eating. dont really like shopping.
but at least i've finally gone to see bodyworlds! was a little disappointing actually. preferred the previous one because they had a more interesting display. stuff like situs inversus and we could touch a actually plastinated brain! but we had fun stamping the various stamps onto the paper. LOL!
can't wait for the new year. 2010 will be a much better year!

Week 1
Hey sorry about the lack of updates. Have been so tired at the end of the day that I really don't feel like updating anymore. It's like being home where everyone is probably doing the same stuff so it isn't as exciting as being overseas I suppose.
Got myself bangs and rebonded my hair. Looking like one of those china dolls now. LOL! Hair's really flat though. Bah.
That's us at the zoo when we went out with one of my Tasmanian classmates and her parents. =) brought them to bugis after that and they tried bubble tea, durian, steamboat/bbq and some dessert at food junction. they had fun! unfortunately it rained heavily the next day so they sort of wasted one day cos they couldn't go anywhere. Oh well, they were in transit to France as well so they didn't have that much luggage space to spare!
Will upload more photos when I get them from Anna and her dad. The zoo has changed quite a bit in terms of layout from the last time I visited it (which is a really long time ago).
Started work again at intercru1ses which has been good so far. =D managed to utilise whatever little german I have left in my brain with some passengers the other day.
Headed down to st james on sunday too with extended family! The songs were damn cheena! Like OMG. didn't understand 1/3 of the song and haven't heard of 1/2 of them! ><
Apart from eating etc, I don't think I've done much. Ok did some shopping yesterday for the 'clinical-ish' clothes and went to BTNR for a morning walk last sat. Gonna have a bbq at my place later! whee~! Loves it!
Alright it should go eat my breakfast which is a ginormous bao that's bigger than my fist!

Unsuccessful.
i didn't get the 5GH attachment. =( oh well. i'm actually not massively upset. this just means that i can actually have a holiday while working too! =D

I FINALLY MET KARIN after my 1st paper! OMGGG!!!

Dinner with SGIA Vice GD
I shall take back what I said about no japanese food in Hobart apart from sushi. Oh my ignorance. That's why I said I need a car. =D Technically there's Orizuru behind Mures but I'm not willing to pay that much for food.
We headed out to Moonah's Kawasemi Japanese Teahouse which is run by one of our soka members! Yummy yummy! I had the Dinner Bento Set and it came with sashimi, sushi, tempura, potato salad etc! It was goooodddddd...!! Gotta wait for Andy to upload the photo of the food.
We then had green tea pancake filled with custard and it came with matcha ice cream too! Om nom nom! Too bad I don't have a picture of this but just imagine a green crepe roll with custard and a scoop of ice cream on the side with green tea sauce drizzled all over.
Drooling yet? ;)
The bento set cost only $18! That's really dirt cheap in Tasmania! I've never eaten at a restaurant without having to fork out more than $20! The dessert was $4.50 but it was well worth it. Did I mention that the owner is Japanese too? That's how authentic it is. Not your dodgy Japanese looking place serving sushi but it is overrun by Chinese people.
Everyone should go try it if they have a car! Seriously good value for money.
Kawasemi Japanese Teahouse
Located in Dickensons Arcade.
Near the big Chickenfeed and huge Moonah carpark.
109 Main Road, Moonah
Open everyday except Sunday
Lunch ends at 3pm
Dinner only available from Wed-Sat
Bookings are essential

Shh! Don't tell the world about this place. It's one of Hobart's best kept secrets. ;)

Voluntary New Exam Paper?
The School wishes to ensure that no students are disadvantaged as a result of that issue, and has set in place a new examination and processes to ensure fair treatment.
All students will be required to sit an examination on the 04/11/09 that will cover and substitute for the MCQ/EMQ component of the first Theme 1 examination which was abandoned. IN ADDITION you will be given an opportunity to sit a whole new Theme 1 examination that includes both SAQ and EMQ/MCQ, should you so wish.
FINAL CAM202 RESULT
The final result for CAM202 will be calculated on the basis of best performance on either the first two separate examinations (SAQ 27/10/09 and MCQ 04/11/09) OR the second examination (09/11/09).
should i? urgh. what a decision!

Taylor Swift's Hairdo in 'Love Story'
this is my attempt at her hair. don't mind the coloured bobby pins. i only have coloured ones such as pink, blue, purple and brown. this is just a 'draft' if there's even such a thing. I didn't have the curling iron so all i did was so twist them up and pin.
alright. back to my notes.

Adventures with the Pineapple
ok as some of you have realised, I cook when I'm stressed/bored. And now that I've finished 2/3 of one paper (out of 3), I decided that I've got some time on my hands and went to town in the morning and dropped by the island fruit market at salamanca to have a look-see.
ended up buying chicken, ONE onion and ONE pineapple. cooked chicken rendang and I'm really happy that I've finished the bottle of paste. Was feeling a little upset when I thought of what I was going to do with all my random bottles of sauces and pastes! Maybe I'll be cooking every single day after the exams! We'll see yeah?
Anyway, as I was saying, I bought a pineapple! Presenting, THE pineapple.
'Sweet and Ready to Eat'
'Ripened in the North Qld Sunshine!'
Aren't you salivating just listening to that?
So the surgeon in me decided to take a chance and operate on this golden beauty to reveal her inner beauty.
Operation Show-Me-Your-Inside
Step 1: Cut off the top and the bottom
Step 2: trim the sides off
Step 3: Decide whether or not you can be bothered to remove the freaking eyes. I couldn't.
Step 5: Cut it up and store away in the fridge and enjoy!
That's me looking very happy but my hands were wobbly because the knife wasn't sharp and it took some effort to cut it up. Just look at the above mess and you'll understand.
I'm such a domesticated person.

something really funny happened during the exam today. but having repeated it so many times, i'm quite sick of it.
in short...
the answers were given in the mcq/emq section. LOL at that! no LOL at them wanting us to do a make up exam together with the pract on wed!
so we only had to do 2/3 of the exam today. 2h. pfft.

Michael Jackson Medley
I'm in love with this guy. He's simply too talented. *faints*
Seriously Just1n should go do something like that. I'm sure every girl would fall for him too.
Thursday, October 22, 2009

'i wonder what this is. Kiss Biscuit. Looks like a diabetic's nightmare. Pink sugar coating with hundreds and thousands sprinkles on it.'
'really apprehensive about this. here goes nothing!'
*gasps*
'it's still got jam in there!!' *faints*
(the end)
self-amusement during study break. pardon the lameness of this post! =) studying drives people insane. hehe!

Smart women often make bad love choices
Studies have shown that the higher a woman's IQ (intelligence quota), the lower her EQ (emotional quota). This means that the brighter a woman is, the less likely she is to make good relationship choices.
Professional women, it has been shown, are more likely to divorce and have affairs and are less likely to have children.
The American Journal Of Marriage & Family cites several studies that show how the divorce rate rises for women who out-earn their male partners.
In fact, women who earn more than their husbands divorce twice as often as those who earn less.
It demonstrates that financially successful women are less tolerant and more controlling of less successful men, and that these men have difficulty living with women who are more successful than them.
Dr Robert Holden, author of Success Intelligence, says that intelligent women spend too much time analysing the meanings and motives in their relationships, instead of just letting themselves be open and emotionally vulnerable to their men.
My 600th post on this blog! We've come a long way indeed.
Had the OSCEs yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been. Probably didn't do as well in the physiology station as I would have loved to, simply because I wasn't sure how to prepare for it. But I should have done relatively well for the other 4 stations, which is awesome.
Station 1: Hx taking - DDx = Bowel cancer, Haemorrhoids
Station 2: GI examination - Talk through till abdo, Examine from abdomen onwards
Station 3: Physiology - GFR, ARBs, ACEI, MDRD
Station 4: Written Examination - Adult Polycystic Kidney Disease
Station 5: Research Ethics and Genetics Privacy/Discrimination
Friday was spent at Elvin3's with Christin@, Darr3n, and Joel3n3. Basically spent the whole day eating instead of studying but it was fun!
Snack: Boiled Sweet Potatoes
Lunch: Leftover Chicken Stew with Rice, Salmon Sashimi, Freshly Baked Bread, Watermelon, Scones
Snack: Timtams
Dinner: Meatloaf, Potatoes with Truffle Oil, Green Salad, Salmon Sashimi, Chocolate Fudge
We finished lunch at about 3pm. Had dinner at about 6+pm. Imagine how full we were! But the food was yummilicious! Thanks Auntie!
Swot-vac has officially started means that the exams are REALLY coming right up!
27 Oct: Theme 1 Written Exam
2 Nov: Perspectives on Aging Exam
4 Nov: Applied Exam
And then I'm done with the exams! With second year of medical school! With preclinical years!
Would be returning to sunny Singapore on 11th Nov! Can't wait! This semester seems to have gone by in a flash. What's new really. Every semester seems like it's flying by and before we know it, we would all be doctors.
Dr Nah, Dr Wong, Dr Neo, Dr Liew, Dr Lau.
Can't imagine that day. I think I would cry. It would have been a long bumpy ride.
Had valedictory dinner on Thursday and we were just listening to the short introduction to the people who were leaving and then Christin@ and I realised that we didn't really want to leave Jane with '___ has been with us for 3/4/5 years and is from Singapore. She studied Medicine.' and thats it! We decided that we would TRY to do something at Jane, be it sports/art show/play/whatever.
dinner that night was niceeee.
Starters: Half an avocado with green salad, beansprouts and kecap manis
Dinner: Macadamia Nut with Lime Leaf Crusted Salmon Steak with Stewed Artichokes and Leek
Dessert: Vanilla Panacotta with Cherry Sauce
The panacotta was TO DIE FOR. I'm so glad I stayed for dessert. *slurps* Sorry but I haven't got pictures this time around. Stomach's growling just thinking of it! XD

just me and my new laptop wallpaper! should just print this and plaster my room with it wherever i turn.
in case you are wondering, they are all my classmates except the one on the right in the bottom left picture. and most of them are smart. which is what is hopefully going to motivate me to study!
such gimmicks. but it's been working thus far (~1h)

haven't been updating because like i said before, life's not too interesting at the moment. how unfortunate. think i've been eating too much and not moving enough. feeling slightly fat bloated now. plus the stench in the pantry isn't helping at all. seriously, this is the stinkiest it has ever been! i wonder who it is that threw whatever it was away! pfft! it's making me nauseous!
rearranged my table - all ready for swotvac! sort of read through pharm and part of renal physiology over the weekend in preparation for the OSCE on saturday. made flashcards for GI/renal Hx and examination. need to start talking to myself again. i'm sort of glad that GI/renal doesn't really require a male guinea pig patient unlike CVS/resp last semester.
its just 4 more weeks till home! will be back on the 11 nov! hanging around for a week after my exams end to pack up my room and maybe do a tour of tassie with some friends. we'll see how that goes. can't believe yr 2 is almost over! now i JUST have to clear this hurdle! *fingers crossed*
and that reminds me. there's still theme 4 to study for for the OSCE! like wth?! urgh. not liking the OSCE at all now. got to go do all the various presentations for the different pathologies for the written station too. nooo.. saturday please don't come so soon!
and stupid body of mine! please stop giving me dizzy spells as and when you like! I NEED TO BE ABLE TO STUDY! been feeling slightly zonked out the past few days - as if my eyes and brain aren't connected and nothing's being processed. which is horrible! i think i might just head off to bed soon, maybe after one round of practice osce with my bolster. =( how sad.

i'm getting a bit tired now that it's near the end of semester to blog properly. life's been too mundane. alright we did surprise elvin3 on thurs night cos his birthday was on friday. that was quite fun! he was about to go to sleep when we turned up at his doorstep. hehe!
but i think the funniest part was when we were trying to get into his building. there was this caucasian lady who was entering too so we were just following her. mind you, there were about 10+ of us. and i think she sort of freaked out cos someone shouted 'follow her!!' which made it sound as if we were gonna do something to her (which of course we weren't) so unfortunately, we were stuck at the glass door and had to call elvine to open the door in the end because she freaked out and went back to her car and actually sat there waiting for us to leave. it took a while for us to get through so she actually drove out again! WTF! hahaha! how scary can a group of 10+ asians look? plus we were holding the freaking cake box! unless it looked like a bomb to paranoid her. LOL!
we went up to his apartment and the guys raided elvin3's alcohol stash! all of us ended up finishing 1/3 of the gold label whiskey, finished up a new bottle of blue douglas and the remaining bailey's that was in the fridge and one new bottle of champagne! seriously the guys ah. but it was damn funny seeing elvin3 dance and stuff. it feels really nice to have people rmb ur birthday and actually celebrate and organise some sort of surprise.
so thats the most exciting part of my week. oh and getting ripped off at some chinese 'restaurant'!
they were having a lunch special for $8.50 which included soup, main course and dessert. so we went in and ordered 'mushroom soup' between a choice of that and chicken/corn. sounded like creamy mushroom soup - the campbell sort but guess what we got? clear msg-laden broth with sliced champignons! -.-"
then we ordered boiled dumplings for mains. we thought it came with rice! because the menu said that all mains came with rice/fried rice! they didn't say except the dumplings. grr. stupid! so we weren't full at all! so we ordered another small plate of fried rice to share. STILL NOT FULL. pekchek already.
dessert was supposed to be ice cream but for $1 more u get a banana fritter too so that was alright i guess. didn't feel ripped off about the dessert.
ended up paying $11.30 person instead of $8.50! should have gone next door and gotten myself a plate of rice for $8 with 2 dishes and that would have made me bloated instead of just barely full!
nv go to 'dragon pa1ace'! pfft. angry angry!

sleep, uni, eat, watch House MD.
maybe some exercise in between all that.
that's my life atm.
although i had one more birthday party last sat which was quite fun to be honest. 1st time i actually danced with no regard to what people thought of me! LOL! always too self-conscious i guess. hehe!
really random thought but i wanna go mambo night and watch everyone dance in sync! especially to the classics like 'heaven is a place on earth' and 'summer rain'!
alright! dinner time!

sab, b3c, ann1ka!
i must find a way to keep my left eye open!
love marcu5' fedora! gives my outfit a new edge.
m@rk and an1ta! i love this photo! i look pretty and slim(mer) here! hehe!
alright i should hit the sack soon. 2nd day of mental health first aid tmr! i'll update again soon! toodles!

got back my midsem results! 83%! woohoo! although to be honest it could have been much better if not for my changing two of my answers! and using a bit more brain on 2 of them. and not forgetting what i studied the night before on one of them. which means i could have gotten full marks! DAMMIT!
oh well its only 5% overall so that's alright. not too bothered by it. i think some people would kill me right now for saying how i actually felt a little upset at a high distinction! LOL! but it wasn't a tough paper. rather easy to be honest but had some tricks here and there. highest was 91% while lowest was 31%.
anyway i'm going for a mental health first aid course this weekend! heavily subsidised by the rural health club! it's going to be awesome i think! one more certificate to add to my collection. -.-" no but seriously i think mental health is a very important area that is under explored.
this friday is insane with 5 lectures. tmr's just pharm tute and pharm lecture so i end at 12 if i do not have kfp after it. which is good cos that means i can try to finish up my diabetes insipidus lecture and reflective piece maybe? although reflective piece can be ignored till next yr. we'll see how things work out.
gonna shower and go for tutorial soon! =)
i love this productive, motivated, mugger me!

watched 4 korean movies over the holidays! =) that made my day! i forgot how good it feels to be able to relax and just watch movies. alright maybe not relaxed but still! it feels good to be able to watch movies and slack in between studying.
the naked kitchen was confusing and not nice. although the guy's the goong crown prince so that was the saving grace. you even get to see his naked back view! LOL! so yes. that was it.
antique kitchen was the first movie i watched and it was nice! although the gay-ness of it was a shock at first because i didn't realise it was a gay show. ;) so for those who aren't homophomes, it is a good movie to watch!
hello schoolgirl and 100 days with mr arrogant are your typical korean movies so it was made me feel all lovey dovey again. love meter's all full and ready to go! HAHA! nice nice! they're the feel-good movies that make the world seem like a better place!
alright. i should go hit the books again. test in 6 days! *freaks out*

today has been rather (un)productive, depending on what you're talking about. let's just say that today has been a HOLIDAY! gotta really start on my reflective piece and revision tmr. cannot be distracted already!
went for yoga today and we walked past chick3nfeed and they had this comestic section of it! OMG I SWEAR WE WENT GAGA INSIDE! if not for me not having enough money, i might have bought the entire place!
guess how much this stash cost me?
let's see. watsons would prob sell the perfectfirm pro for $40? dermagenesis concentrated serum for $30? loreal bare natural mineral makeup for $25? loreal colour appeal trio pro eyeshadows for $15?
so that would be $110?
well. i got them all for $20! it was 2 for $10!!!! and it's all made in germany, italy and USA! not indonesia or whatever other places you get them from! how awesome is that! very very happy!
decided to go down to wooli3s to get some food so that we can cook. ended up buying food for steamboat! hahaha!
this is half of what we bought except the chicken. that was all of it. the sausage looking things are actually chicken necks. we were sooo full by the end of it! and the groceries cost us $30+ (2x amount shown) so we split it by 2 people (christ1na and myself) and we only ate half the amount! so we only spent like $7-9 for dinner! yummy!
and yes that is shabu shabu beef! ;)
made tea leaf eggs too! we'll see how they taste tmr!
konnyaku the day before!
just realised how picture intensive my blog posts are! but would you guys prefer posts with more pictures or more words? *poll please!*

it's damn fucking (pardon the language) hard to find a place to move out into that's in town, that's not too expensive and doesn't require me to pay 3mth worth of rent for nothing. and with enough rooms too.
there's this really nice place but it's only two rooms and now we have three (?). meh.
not liking how electricity is going to be more expensive and how they're gonna start metering out water too! =(
michelle hates trouble yet she seems to be looking for trouble at the moment.
in fact, she even felt a little sad that she might be leaving jan3! oh no! what's happening to her! too attached to this lovely place!

despite the torrential rain today, we still made it to cascades after much deliberation etc! =) first time i used my phone this much! hahahaha! anyway, it was an interesting trip nonetheless and although i wished the rain stopped so that we would be able to explore the extensive gardens.. =( thats my only regret (of sorts). oh well. there's always another time! hehehe!
for starters, presenting, the grains!
middle one's lightly roasted while the right one's roasted (duh chaota already!)
wooden thing's the old old kettle that survived the fire back in 1967. they (used to) mix/boil the water and grains together in there. today it's just used to store the mixture i think.
us outside the brewery. looks hogwartish? =) its one of the oldest breweries in australia and one of the few that do things the traditional (method wise) way!
fermenter's to our right! can peer through the peephole to have a look into the bubbling amber pureness. yummyyyy..
bottles! probably rejects? not sure why they were just outside in a huge dustbin thing.
bottling process behind me!
beer taps! draft, pale ale, cascade green, premium lager, first harvest! stout was available too but it was in the bottle. and it was actually quite nice!
*btw stout has the MOST hobs in it! and lager is made at a lower temp than ale!
and of course, presenting us with our free drinks!
mine's ginger beer (which was REALLY REALLY nice!), elvin3's holding the pale ale and christ1na's blocking her raspberry drink.
had lunch there. the beer battered fish was yummy and so was our steak. the garlic bread wasnt garlicky enough so boo. the desserts were yum! although the stout ice cream tasted very much like cappucinno ice cream for some reason. the cheesecakes were awesome too esp the honey comb and chocolate one. the passionfruit one was alright. scones were hot and the jam was oooo with cream that formed soft peaks.
*heavenly*
now you know why i've put on weight over these few days. argh i need to go back to yoga. but the weather is BAD BAD BAD!!!
PS. went for my eye test today and all's fine!
R: 6/5
L: 6/6
everything in my eyes' alright too. blood vessels, nerves etc. =) i'm still glad that my vision's awesome. although that means i have to wear goggles on various occasions but i guess that's still less troublesome than having to grapple with specs considering how sunglasses rarely stay on my nose properly.
