Sunday, April 25, 2010

one day one day. getting there. hang in there!

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

watched alice in wonderland and new moon the other day.

AiW was not too bad but i feel that it was slightly overrated? Maybe the 3D version would have been more exciting, considering some people watched it 3 times. =S i think if LOTR was made 3D i would watch it 3x but not AiW.

New Moon was even worse. wasted 2h of my life. grr. i wonder if the last one is going to be worse still. but at least i have finally watched new moon. -.-

Finished Glee too! that was quite nice. Makes you want to sing and dance along with them too. hehehe! sometimes i wish i could sing and dance. ok shant be greedy. sing OR dance. =)

Lecturers and Notes

I hate how some lecturers think they are doing us a favour by putting 4-6 slides on a page. I'd so much rather them save them as individual slides so that I can format it however I want it. I'm the sort to squeeze 9 slides on a page. That's why.

Worst still are those who save as Notes format with the lines provided at the side. One page end up only 3 slides. Plus some of those slides are USELESS. Grr. I wish they didn't take the initiative. Lol!

Freebies, discounts and more!

OH guess what! My 'new' Honda Jazz was reclassified as a demo car! So i get a $300 discount! =) Awesome! Besides, the only people who have test-driven the car are me, elvin3 and another person. Has only 109km in it! So it really isn't that much of a demo car I suppose. But hey! Who doesn't enjoy a $300 discount! =P

On top of that, I had free carpet mats thrown in which cost $195.

Maybe life isn't that bad after all.

Monday, March 22, 2010

80s/90s party on saturday! was quite fun i guess. saw heaps of old friends and it was really nice. =) pics are in tessa's camera so we'll just have to wait for them.

week 7 already! 2 more weeks to easter break/study break! niceeee.

Wishing too much

LIFE IS BORING.

sorry for the lack of updates.

apart from the fact that sometimes some people don't know their limits and keep trampling on my toes although it isn't anything serious. it's just pissifying sometimes. but i know they really mean no harm cos they're just being themselves. i need more self-control.

apart from that, i wish things can be simplified. why must life be so full of twists, turns and road blocks? mehhh. upset upset.

OH and these few days there have been many many car break-ins and horrible things happening around. =( Sam's car got broken into.

AND wongi3 is getting a car! honda jazz. manual. GG. it makes me want a car too. =( now i wish i had a manual license so i can just kope her car.

sad sad sad.

First Rain

it's raining!!! like a proper rain! it's such an awesome feeling when you're indoors trying to get work done with the soft pattering of the rain in the background. it has been so hot the past few days! it's supposed to be autumn, not summer! although summer can be a pretty wonderful season as well i suppose. =)

sorta finished my assignment but now i'm 500 words over the limit! shucks! best part is that i have no idea how to reduce the words! the more i read, the more i end up typing instead of deleting. whoops!

need to go study and read talley etc! finally getting more bedside tutes! i've 3 this coming week! endocrine, neuro and abdo! need to get my OSLERs signed off! =S

went down to DEM the other day when my team was on take. took Hx and had my notes counter signed by the reg and filed away! haha! cheap thrill. =P we went off to do venepuncture on each other again while 4 nurses looked on in horror as we practiced on each other. it was pretty funny! so now i've got a vial of blood sitting on my shelf which has separated out into two layers. my friends think i'm sick in the head. i think it's pretty cool! (at least i like to think so)

so much to do yet so little time! =( jiayou!

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

It's rural week for 1/4 of my class so the rest of us do not have lectures for these two weeks! AWESOME! So it just means that we can go study and catch up on all the neuroanatomy things and sleep! Came down to the clinical school early because I wanted to do clerk a patient in the morning then I realised that ward rounds might be going on and it probably isn't a very good idea to do it so early. Bah oh well I'll just say I had a short talk to one of the patients previously (the one which had a TTE and pacemaker op while I watched).

Med Welcome on Sat was crazy as usual. Nothing outta the ordinary for med parties. Haha! It was nice meeting all the people that went to Launnie and just talking and catching up with people you don't usually talk to. I think I spoke more to N1ck and Cath more than I did the ENTIRE YEAR last year in one night! Amazing.

Sunday was rather uneventful - a day to catch up on lost sleep. Went out for dindins with Christ1na and Mum which was nice. Think it was like $50+ for 3 people which actually isn't too bad in Hobart.

Alright, that's really all for now. Gotta head off to my bedside tute soon! Hope everything's going alright for everyone! =)

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Life's pretty normal with lectures and hospital stuff. The only highlight so far would be getting back into endoscopy AND drawing out the propofol AND administering it! under the watchful eye of the anaesthetist of course! ok he wasn't really STARING at me give it but he was there just making sure that the patient isn't going to wake up on me. =)

everything was a first for me! drawing it out, handling sharps and everything! Finally something procedural! I know it sounds really trivial but it IS my first time doing all these stuff on a REAL patient! woots!

Just had a 5-hr ward round this morning. Radiology meeting was pretty cool looking at all the CTs, MRIs etc! Was still pretty hard to understand what they were talking about since all i see right now are like grey, black and white. hehe! alright i can identify structures but they were scanning through the slices so quickly that it was pretty difficult to follow! Went off to ward rounds thereafter and I was so glad we had the 'metabolic meeting' at 10.30am. Wondering what that is? Basically all the teams just stop work and head upstairs to the RMO quarters for makan! HAHA! Talk about welfare!

Was going to clerk 2 more patients after lunch but they both had family with them so we might do it our tutorial/lecture at 2pm. Which would be followed by a pharmacy tutorial at 3pm and then a dermatology tut at 5pm (which is really interesting AND because the reg is really pretty too!)

Was societies day yesterday and it was good! saw heaps of friends and free drinks too! Motto of the day: Two hands, Two cans! That was pasted on the walls everywhere! Another friend of mine had 10 cans! OMG and she was still alright! niceee.

Went to pear1's surprise birthday party last night! was pretty going hanging out with friends and having a tour of their new house! it is huge! pretty convenient too. Just around the corner from salamanca and town.

There's an Overs3a Singapor3an Unit dinner at Henr7 Jone5 Hotel at 6pm so yay! Nice nice dinner!

So ya, it has been a rather busy week. But I LOVE IT!

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Early in the morning at 8 o'clock

Got to the hospital early for ward rounds/patient clerking but there were too many people already so we had to leave. bahh. so now i'm in the computer lab just chilling and making use of the free internet. i should really go get some work done. hahaha!

had our TUMS5 yusheng on friday which was not too bad honestly! although i did have to cut all the vegetables by hand because the shredder wasn't working for me. didn't mind it much but i had to cut from 1-5pm. imagine that. must be damn pro by now! hahaha!

went over to elvin3's on sat for dinner. we had the teochew style yusheng with salmon instead. then a steamed fish, steamboat, mango pudding, yummy champagne (brown brothers zibbibo) and some other muscato too! ended up watching random youtube videos on the tv and then they played blackjack while i just slept on the sofa because it was like 1+am already. got home at like 2am and immediately concussed on my bed. but it was fun la! minus the fact that i poked myself when i was descaling my first ever fish! ouch!

sunday was spent in town with the freshers, bringing them around etc and had a celebratory 2 scoops of my favourite ice cream at mure5! =) absolute love! i will definitely bring you guys to try it when you're here!

it's going to be an interesting year ahead! woots! exciting exciting! but i'm so busy with uni. bleargh. lots of OTOT stuff so many not that bad. but it just means a hell lot of SDL. eeks!

I've got a cute intern, a nice reg and hopefully alright consultants! =) Basically I've got an awesome team! YAY! The intern's really really nice too cos he used to help us during our practicals and everyone just gushes about him. Incentive for morning ward rounds much? =P

Reverse Packing

Back in Hobart since yesterday! Been busy with TUM5S stuff and unpacking. Left with the clothes that I have yet to put into the cupboard. Other than that, almost everything is where they are supposed to be. Just need to rearrange some stuff that's all. =)

Will post pics once my room is out of it's war-torn state. LOL! Hope everyone's doing well atm!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

A student from Soka High School (in Japan) asked President Ikeda the following question:
"What should I expect from chanting daimoku?''

Sensei replied:
"When you chant 1hour of daimoku, you will see changes in yourself.
When you chant 2hours of daimoku, you will see changes in other people.
When you chant 3hours of daimoku, you will see changes in your environment.
When yo u chant 5hours of daimoku, you will experience miracles in your life.
When you chant one million daimoku, you can feel your fortune.
When you chant 7million daimoku, your foundation as human being will change.
When you chant 20million daimoku, even though you try to escape from it, fortune will continue to follow you.
When you chant 70million daimoku, you can become the king of faith."

5 more days till i go back! OMG! 5 more only?!

Having mixed feelings once more considering I wouldn't be coming back in July this year. =( But it's going to be an exciting year with GHC, AMSA convention etc! woots! Hobart is going to be happening for once! But of course how can it beat last year's at Brisbane when they went to Movie World etc?! SIAN!

School starts 1st Feb with all the orientation stuff and probably teaching for the various rotations but we wouldn't be on the wards yet. That would start in 2nd week I think. Gotta get all the paper work done ASAP when i get back. All the forms that are in my email.. LOL!

Teaching commences: 9am, Monday 1st Feb.
Monday holidays: 8th February, 8th March.

Easter break: Friday 2nd April - Sunday 11th April, inclusive.
Mid-year break Saturday 19th June - Sunday 27th June inclusive.
Mid-semester break Saturday 21st August - Sunday 29th August inclusive.

and that's all I've got! BOOHOO! Of course there's the november break as well but not sure when that would start. Probably mid-end november!

Haven't been updating much when I'm back. Did I even update about my Japan trip?! HMM. Oh well, life in Singapore is pretty much the same anw.

OH went for this talk about the new residency programme in Singapore and it sounds interesting but there would be heaps of formative assessments and stuff (almost every 6 weeks) which would be CRAZY but it's much shorter than the traditional route. We'll see what happens.

Was calculating the pay based on 80h-week and it ends up as $10/h only! WHATTTT!! Basic pay is $2690 + 110-130/call which is about 6x/month so ~$3200. OUCH! No wonder they were saying it was like Mai Dang Lao pay.

Saturday, January 16, 2010

omg today is probably the happiest day of my life (in a while)!

simply because the bubble just got sweeter! hahaha! this yr has been going great so far! alright back to my point.

i got one of the biggest/highly coveted after rooms at college!!! omg im so happy! seriously if you guys ever come over to tassie this yr, you can just bunk in with me. i've got a double bed and more space to spare still! woots! rmb my delight when i found out i got 024 last yr? well 035 is so much awesome-er!

the reasons why i'm on cloud nine-ty!

  1. everyone wants this room
  2. it's ginormous
  3. it's got a powerful overhead heater unlike my previous panel heater where you can only feel the heat when u stand near to it (although it still sort of heats the room up nonetheless)
  4. it's got a big and long table with overhead shelves!
  5. it's in between the pantry and toilet (not bath)
  6. my room is almost technically ensuite because once i exit my room door, the toilet door is REALLY just to my left.
  7. it's still connected to the dining hall so that means another year of not having to leave the building at all during study breaks!
  8. i can actually skip in my room now because the ceiling is high and i do not need to worry about hitting the lights anymore
  9. it's got a double bed (as mentioned above)
  10. i can buy a projector and project my movies onto the wall. (not that i would be yeah i COULD!)
  11. enough space to put a fridge, sofa tv set etc. studio apartment anyone?
and the list goes on. hahaha do i sound too excited about a room?

seriously this morning when i woke up to check my email to see if they had replied with my room no, it was ALMOST like checking my exam results! only that this happiness can almost rival achieving a HD for my exams! muahahaha!

went out to get bedsheets for my double bed. loves.

hopefully i'll make good use of the space and get more exercise done. exercise corner perhaps? right now i only have a stepper, yoga mat, skipping rope. and err the resistance bands that came with the stepper.

okok all the excitement is making me really tired now. till laters guys!

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Have you ever wished that your dreams would all come true this instant because everything seems too perfect to be true?

I have. And I don't want to wake up from this little bubble that I've created for myself. Life's too beautiful inside it. Nothing can get me down as long as I'm in this little fantasy world of mine. =)

my own DIY gradient nails! nice? i think the picture does not do it proper justice. LOL!

this shows how bored i am. =(

2009 at a Glance

2009 was less exciting than 2008 in some ways but better in others. although now that it's come to an end, i'm not too sure about what's happened anymore.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
visited japan on a holiday NOT transit!
missed a flight

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

ENJOY 2nd yr of med school - absolutely
be able to handle ss5 activities and school work - survived it so yeah
get HD for applied exam and maintain my HDs for the other papers - not really but happy to have maintained an overall distinction still! =)
be more active in SGIA activities! - yes finally! they have been very supportive so thank you all so much!

for next yr..

Juggle TUMS5' responsibilities and school work
Able to keep up with work, do not procrastinate
Pursue research if possible
Contribute to SGIA
exercise more!! i need to do this! someone push me please!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

nope

4. Did anyone close to you die?
nope

5. What countries did you visit?
australia, japan, malaysia

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
and even bigger room although i would be happy with the old one.
more time, energy, memory space, patience, understanding, rest, self-control

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
err not really. nothing that significant. probably 1 or 2 but can't remember the dates.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
still maintaining my results despite what happened - my near mental breakdown in 2nd semester.

9. What was your biggest failure?
not being true to myself sometimes. it's really tiring to be someone you're not. =( pretending to be friendly to people you don't like etc. i'm quite glad i don't have to see them anymore. i know why i fly home despite hating the flight - i need to recharge and have a chance to be myself.

10.Did you suffer illness or injury?
2nd sem again. pfft. and the occasional dizzy spells and nausea from stress. ouch. ENT doesn't know what's wrong so i'm referred to the neurologist but i wouldnt be around for it! -.-"

11.What was the best thing you bought?
stepper machine? that's what kept me from falling asleep while studying.

12.Whose behavior merited celebration?
pam, ruth, justin, elvine, me (for being more tolerant towards some people)

many have reared their ugly side this yr. decided to be quite anti-social to save myself from trouble and headaches.

13.Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

... i'm sorry for what's happened between us. but i'm glad it's all over.

14.Where did most of your money go?
food food food. home-cooked and outside food. that's the bad thing about having classes in town. you ditch your soggy sandwich for hot naan with curry and papadum.

good thing about being overseas is that you don't have to spend money on people's 21st birthday presents which would have cost a bomb!

15.What did you get really, really, really excited about?
nothing much. why does this yr sound so boring as compared to last yr? probably because whatever was interesting is no longer as exciting.

OH i guess dissection still has its appeal. all the guts, heart, lungs etc. that was fun. muahahah sick.

16.What song will always remind you of 2009?

you belong with me.

17.Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
hmm happier? although it's probably because i've made it to 3rd year without much mishap. fewer accidents than last yr.

18.What do you wish you’d done more of?
chanting, keeping in contact

19.What do you wish you’d done less of?
sleeping and eating.

20.How did you spend Christmas?
went to malacca for dimsum, some shopping and avatar! the hotel was quite eeks like i mentioned before.

21.Did you fall in love in 2009?
still wondering. probably 2010? LOL!

22.How many one-night stands?
none of course.

23.What was your favorite TV program?
RPA and house. haven't watched much tv ever since uni started because aussie tv is bad.

24.Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
not really.

25.What was the best book you read?
7 habits of highly effective people. not that i've finished the book. getting there.

26.What was your greatest musical discovery?
guitar. it's been a longgg while.

27.What did you want and get?
passing. didn't expect much in the first place.

28.What did you want and not get?
nothing.

29.What was your favorite film this year?
avatar. awesome movie! worth every cent and minute!

30.What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
work and still got scolded because passengers were being quite a bitch.

31.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
went out more, made more friends, travelled more.

32.How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
brown jacket, jeans, tees, red shoes.

33.What kept you sane?
skype sessions with bro and family. msn chats with friends. music heals all wounds. sleep definitely helped.

34.Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
-

35.What political issue stirred you the most?
-

36.Who did you miss?
pam ruth!! family! was much more home sick this year as compared to last yr. hopefully next yr wouldn't be as difficult emotionally.

37.Who was the best new person you met?
new tasmania people eg anthony, eugene, eva etc (not the 1st yrs). hopefully i'll meet great people next yr!

38.Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
love yourself and trust no one too easily. i'm becoming cynical. urgh.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
hmmmmm. i dunno. too boring to quote lyrics.

Monday, December 28, 2009

finally watched avatar!! NICEEE!!!! =) watched it in malacca on christmas for only RM11. shiok! didn't do much sightseeing at all. basically ate and ate and ate. not that i'm complaining. dimsum twice, A&W, assam laksa etc. yummy!

i'm feeling a little upset that there's only about 1 month left till i go back to tassie. nooooo... =( this holiday have gone by too quickly! been feeling too lazy to go out. not much to do anyway besides watching movies and eating. dont really like shopping.

but at least i've finally gone to see bodyworlds! was a little disappointing actually. preferred the previous one because they had a more interesting display. stuff like situs inversus and we could touch a actually plastinated brain! but we had fun stamping the various stamps onto the paper. LOL!

can't wait for the new year. 2010 will be a much better year!

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

omg it's almost been a month since i've updated.

besides coming back from japan a week ago, there's nothing much going on.

off to the ENT clinic soon for my VNG test.

PS. I WANNA WATCH AVATAR!!!!

Officially 3rd Yr!

i passed!! distinction again! whee~! =D waiting for possibly the last treat now because subsequently everything's going to be pass/fail i think. just wondering who it will be. it all boils down to jo3l3n3 now.

Week 1

Hey sorry about the lack of updates. Have been so tired at the end of the day that I really don't feel like updating anymore. It's like being home where everyone is probably doing the same stuff so it isn't as exciting as being overseas I suppose.

Got myself bangs and rebonded my hair. Looking like one of those china dolls now. LOL! Hair's really flat though. Bah.

That's us at the zoo when we went out with one of my Tasmanian classmates and her parents. =) brought them to bugis after that and they tried bubble tea, durian, steamboat/bbq and some dessert at food junction. they had fun! unfortunately it rained heavily the next day so they sort of wasted one day cos they couldn't go anywhere. Oh well, they were in transit to France as well so they didn't have that much luggage space to spare!

Will upload more photos when I get them from Anna and her dad. The zoo has changed quite a bit in terms of layout from the last time I visited it (which is a really long time ago).

Started work again at intercru1ses which has been good so far. =D managed to utilise whatever little german I have left in my brain with some passengers the other day.

Headed down to st james on sunday too with extended family! The songs were damn cheena! Like OMG. didn't understand 1/3 of the song and haven't heard of 1/2 of them! ><

Apart from eating etc, I don't think I've done much. Ok did some shopping yesterday for the 'clinical-ish' clothes and went to BTNR for a morning walk last sat. Gonna have a bbq at my place later! whee~! Loves it!

Alright it should go eat my breakfast which is a ginormous bao that's bigger than my fist!

Sunny Island

finally back in sunny singapore after a rather eventful return home. hopefully it will never happen again. argh. i missed my flight. >< whoops. long story.

Friday, November 06, 2009

Unsuccessful.

i didn't get the 5GH attachment. =( oh well. i'm actually not massively upset. this just means that i can actually have a holiday while working too! =D

Finally met Karin!

oh and i forgot to mention!!

I FINALLY MET KARIN after my 1st paper! OMGGG!!!

was at the art school for faith's exhibition because she's returning to sg. she decided not to finish her degree as it isn't what she wants to do.

anyway was about to leave the art school when i saw someone who looked like karin walk towards me! think she was preparing for her graduation exhibition that's on tmr! she asked me to go see but i don't have the details! eeks! think i've got her number somewhere but i need to look for it.

i can finally tell gina that i've met her! HAHAHA! =)

3 boxes and counting.

3 boxes later. at least my shelf is starting to look empty. =)

lol recall the similar posts last yr? my gosh! time flies!

Dinner with SGIA Vice GD

I shall take back what I said about no japanese food in Hobart apart from sushi. Oh my ignorance. That's why I said I need a car. =D Technically there's Orizuru behind Mures but I'm not willing to pay that much for food.

We headed out to Moonah's Kawasemi Japanese Teahouse which is run by one of our soka members! Yummy yummy! I had the Dinner Bento Set and it came with sashimi, sushi, tempura, potato salad etc! It was goooodddddd...!! Gotta wait for Andy to upload the photo of the food.

We then had green tea pancake filled with custard and it came with matcha ice cream too! Om nom nom! Too bad I don't have a picture of this but just imagine a green crepe roll with custard and a scoop of ice cream on the side with green tea sauce drizzled all over.

Drooling yet? ;)

The bento set cost only $18! That's really dirt cheap in Tasmania! I've never eaten at a restaurant without having to fork out more than $20! The dessert was $4.50 but it was well worth it. Did I mention that the owner is Japanese too? That's how authentic it is. Not your dodgy Japanese looking place serving sushi but it is overrun by Chinese people.

Everyone should go try it if they have a car! Seriously good value for money.

Kawasemi Japanese Teahouse
Located in Dickensons Arcade.
Near the big Chickenfeed and huge Moonah carpark.

Shh! Don't tell the world about this place. It's one of Hobart's best kept secrets. ;)

Voluntary New Exam Paper?

The School wishes to ensure that no students are disadvantaged as a result of that issue, and has set in place a new examination and processes to ensure fair treatment.

All students will be required to sit an examination on the 04/11/09 that will cover and substitute for the MCQ/EMQ component of the first Theme 1 examination which was abandoned. IN ADDITION you will be given an opportunity to sit a whole new Theme 1 examination that includes both SAQ and EMQ/MCQ, should you so wish.

FINAL CAM202 RESULT
The final result for CAM202 will be calculated on the basis of best performance on either the first two separate examinations (SAQ 27/10/09 and MCQ 04/11/09) OR the second examination (09/11/09).

should i? urgh. what a decision!

Taylor Swift's Hairdo in 'Love Story'

this is my attempt at her hair. don't mind the coloured bobby pins. i only have coloured ones such as pink, blue, purple and brown. this is just a 'draft' if there's even such a thing. I didn't have the curling iron so all i did was so twist them up and pin.

alright. back to my notes.
decided to change my blogskin. a little sick of the old one already. =)

Thursday, October 29, 2009

me with a twisted side braid thing. i think it looks quite nice despite me not doing it properly. ok i think i should go back to reading my notes instead of doing rubbish stuff like this in the midst of exams. urgh.

Adventures with the Pineapple

ok as some of you have realised, I cook when I'm stressed/bored. And now that I've finished 2/3 of one paper (out of 3), I decided that I've got some time on my hands and went to town in the morning and dropped by the island fruit market at salamanca to have a look-see.

ended up buying chicken, ONE onion and ONE pineapple. cooked chicken rendang and I'm really happy that I've finished the bottle of paste. Was feeling a little upset when I thought of what I was going to do with all my random bottles of sauces and pastes! Maybe I'll be cooking every single day after the exams! We'll see yeah?

Anyway, as I was saying, I bought a pineapple! Presenting, THE pineapple.

'Sweet and Ready to Eat'
'Ripened in the North Qld Sunshine!'
Aren't you salivating just listening to that?

So the surgeon in me decided to take a chance and operate on this golden beauty to reveal her inner beauty.
Operation Show-Me-Your-Inside

Step 1: Cut off the top and the bottom

Step 2: trim the sides off

Step 3: Decide whether or not you can be bothered to remove the freaking eyes. I couldn't.

Step 5: Cut it up and store away in the fridge and enjoy!

That's me looking very happy but my hands were wobbly because the knife wasn't sharp and it took some effort to cut it up. Just look at the above mess and you'll understand.

I'm such a domesticated person.

something really funny happened during the exam today. but having repeated it so many times, i'm quite sick of it.

in short...

the answers were given in the mcq/emq section. LOL at that! no LOL at them wanting us to do a make up exam together with the pract on wed!

so we only had to do 2/3 of the exam today. 2h. pfft.
in 6hours, i would be done with my written theme 1 paper! woots! can't wait!

Smart women often make bad love choices
Studies have shown that the higher a woman's IQ (intelligence quota), the lower her EQ (emotional quota). This means that the brighter a woman is, the less likely she is to make good relationship choices.

Professional women, it has been shown, are more likely to divorce and have affairs and are less likely to have children.

The
American Journal Of Marriage & Family cites several studies that show how the divorce rate rises for women who out-earn their male partners.

In fact, women who earn more than their husbands divorce twice as often as those who earn less.

It demonstrates that financially successful women are less tolerant and more controlling of less successful men, and that these men have difficulty living with women who are more successful than them.

Dr Robert Holden, author of
Success Intelligence, says that intelligent women spend too much time analysing the meanings and motives in their relationships, instead of just letting themselves be open and emotionally vulnerable to their men.
My 600th post on this blog! We've come a long way indeed.
Had the OSCEs yesterday. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would have been. Probably didn't do as well in the physiology station as I would have loved to, simply because I wasn't sure how to prepare for it. But I should have done relatively well for the other 4 stations, which is awesome.

Station 1: Hx taking - DDx = Bowel cancer, Haemorrhoids
Station 2: GI examination - Talk through till abdo, Examine from abdomen onwards
Station 3: Physiology - GFR, ARBs, ACEI, MDRD
Station 4: Written Examination - Adult Polycystic Kidney Disease
Station 5: Research Ethics and Genetics Privacy/Discrimination

Friday was spent at Elvin3's with Christin@, Darr3n, and Joel3n3. Basically spent the whole day eating instead of studying but it was fun!

Snack: Boiled Sweet Potatoes
Lunch: Leftover Chicken Stew with Rice, Salmon Sashimi, Freshly Baked Bread, Watermelon, Scones
Snack: Timtams
Dinner: Meatloaf, Potatoes with Truffle Oil, Green Salad, Salmon Sashimi, Chocolate Fudge

We finished lunch at about 3pm. Had dinner at about 6+pm. Imagine how full we were! But the food was yummilicious! Thanks Auntie!

Swot-vac has officially started means that the exams are REALLY coming right up!

27 Oct: Theme 1 Written Exam
2 Nov: Perspectives on Aging Exam
4 Nov: Applied Exam

And then I'm done with the exams! With second year of medical school! With preclinical years!

Would be returning to sunny Singapore on 11th Nov! Can't wait! This semester seems to have gone by in a flash. What's new really. Every semester seems like it's flying by and before we know it, we would all be doctors.

Dr Nah, Dr Wong, Dr Neo, Dr Liew, Dr Lau.

Can't imagine that day. I think I would cry. It would have been a long bumpy ride.

Had valedictory dinner on Thursday and we were just listening to the short introduction to the people who were leaving and then Christin@ and I realised that we didn't really want to leave Jane with '___ has been with us for 3/4/5 years and is from Singapore. She studied Medicine.' and thats it! We decided that we would TRY to do something at Jane, be it sports/art show/play/whatever.

dinner that night was niceeee.

Starters: Half an avocado with green salad, beansprouts and kecap manis
Dinner: Macadamia Nut with Lime Leaf Crusted Salmon Steak with Stewed Artichokes and Leek
Dessert: Vanilla Panacotta with Cherry Sauce

The panacotta was TO DIE FOR. I'm so glad I stayed for dessert. *slurps* Sorry but I haven't got pictures this time around. Stomach's growling just thinking of it! XD

just me and my new laptop wallpaper! should just print this and plaster my room with it wherever i turn.
in case you are wondering, they are all my classmates except the one on the right in the bottom left picture. and most of them are smart. which is what is hopefully going to motivate me to study!
such gimmicks. but it's been working thus far (~1h)

haven't been updating because like i said before, life's not too interesting at the moment. how unfortunate. think i've been eating too much and not moving enough. feeling slightly fat bloated now. plus the stench in the pantry isn't helping at all. seriously, this is the stinkiest it has ever been! i wonder who it is that threw whatever it was away! pfft! it's making me nauseous!

rearranged my table - all ready for swotvac! sort of read through pharm and part of renal physiology over the weekend in preparation for the OSCE on saturday. made flashcards for GI/renal Hx and examination. need to start talking to myself again. i'm sort of glad that GI/renal doesn't really require a male guinea pig patient unlike CVS/resp last semester.

its just 4 more weeks till home! will be back on the 11 nov! hanging around for a week after my exams end to pack up my room and maybe do a tour of tassie with some friends. we'll see how that goes. can't believe yr 2 is almost over! now i JUST have to clear this hurdle! *fingers crossed*

and that reminds me. there's still theme 4 to study for for the OSCE! like wth?! urgh. not liking the OSCE at all now. got to go do all the various presentations for the different pathologies for the written station too. nooo.. saturday please don't come so soon!

and stupid body of mine! please stop giving me dizzy spells as and when you like! I NEED TO BE ABLE TO STUDY! been feeling slightly zonked out the past few days - as if my eyes and brain aren't connected and nothing's being processed. which is horrible! i think i might just head off to bed soon, maybe after one round of practice osce with my bolster. =( how sad.

last week of uni!!!!!! OMG!!! *jumps for joy*

and shit exams are coming!

i'm getting a bit tired now that it's near the end of semester to blog properly. life's been too mundane. alright we did surprise elvin3 on thurs night cos his birthday was on friday. that was quite fun! he was about to go to sleep when we turned up at his doorstep. hehe!

but i think the funniest part was when we were trying to get into his building. there was this caucasian lady who was entering too so we were just following her. mind you, there were about 10+ of us. and i think she sort of freaked out cos someone shouted 'follow her!!' which made it sound as if we were gonna do something to her (which of course we weren't) so unfortunately, we were stuck at the glass door and had to call elvine to open the door in the end because she freaked out and went back to her car and actually sat there waiting for us to leave. it took a while for us to get through so she actually drove out again! WTF! hahaha! how scary can a group of 10+ asians look? plus we were holding the freaking cake box! unless it looked like a bomb to paranoid her. LOL!

we went up to his apartment and the guys raided elvin3's alcohol stash! all of us ended up finishing 1/3 of the gold label whiskey, finished up a new bottle of blue douglas and the remaining bailey's that was in the fridge and one new bottle of champagne! seriously the guys ah. but it was damn funny seeing elvin3 dance and stuff. it feels really nice to have people rmb ur birthday and actually celebrate and organise some sort of surprise.

so thats the most exciting part of my week. oh and getting ripped off at some chinese 'restaurant'!

they were having a lunch special for $8.50 which included soup, main course and dessert. so we went in and ordered 'mushroom soup' between a choice of that and chicken/corn. sounded like creamy mushroom soup - the campbell sort but guess what we got? clear msg-laden broth with sliced champignons! -.-"

then we ordered boiled dumplings for mains. we thought it came with rice! because the menu said that all mains came with rice/fried rice! they didn't say except the dumplings. grr. stupid! so we weren't full at all! so we ordered another small plate of fried rice to share. STILL NOT FULL. pekchek already.

dessert was supposed to be ice cream but for $1 more u get a banana fritter too so that was alright i guess. didn't feel ripped off about the dessert.

ended up paying $11.30 person instead of $8.50! should have gone next door and gotten myself a plate of rice for $8 with 2 dishes and that would have made me bloated instead of just barely full!

nv go to 'dragon pa1ace'! pfft. angry angry!

sleep, uni, eat, watch House MD.

maybe some exercise in between all that.

that's my life atm.

although i had one more birthday party last sat which was quite fun to be honest. 1st time i actually danced with no regard to what people thought of me! LOL! always too self-conscious i guess. hehe!

really random thought but i wanna go mambo night and watch everyone dance in sync! especially to the classics like 'heaven is a place on earth' and 'summer rain'!

alright! dinner time!

*note to self. i hate flash. makes my one eye big one eye small 'defect' even more obvious!

sab, b3c, ann1ka!
i must find a way to keep my left eye open!

love marcu5' fedora! gives my outfit a new edge.

m@rk and an1ta! i love this photo! i look pretty and slim(mer) here! hehe!

alright i should hit the sack soon. 2nd day of mental health first aid tmr! i'll update again soon! toodles!

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

got back my midsem results! 83%! woohoo! although to be honest it could have been much better if not for my changing two of my answers! and using a bit more brain on 2 of them. and not forgetting what i studied the night before on one of them. which means i could have gotten full marks! DAMMIT!

oh well its only 5% overall so that's alright. not too bothered by it. i think some people would kill me right now for saying how i actually felt a little upset at a high distinction! LOL! but it wasn't a tough paper. rather easy to be honest but had some tricks here and there. highest was 91% while lowest was 31%.

anyway i'm going for a mental health first aid course this weekend! heavily subsidised by the rural health club! it's going to be awesome i think! one more certificate to add to my collection. -.-" no but seriously i think mental health is a very important area that is under explored.

this friday is insane with 5 lectures. tmr's just pharm tute and pharm lecture so i end at 12 if i do not have kfp after it. which is good cos that means i can try to finish up my diabetes insipidus lecture and reflective piece maybe? although reflective piece can be ignored till next yr. we'll see how things work out.

gonna shower and go for tutorial soon! =)

i love this productive, motivated, mugger me!

watched 4 korean movies over the holidays! =) that made my day! i forgot how good it feels to be able to relax and just watch movies. alright maybe not relaxed but still! it feels good to be able to watch movies and slack in between studying.

the naked kitchen was confusing and not nice. although the guy's the goong crown prince so that was the saving grace. you even get to see his naked back view! LOL! so yes. that was it.

antique kitchen was the first movie i watched and it was nice! although the gay-ness of it was a shock at first because i didn't realise it was a gay show. ;) so for those who aren't homophomes, it is a good movie to watch!

hello schoolgirl and 100 days with mr arrogant are your typical korean movies so it was made me feel all lovey dovey again. love meter's all full and ready to go! HAHA! nice nice! they're the feel-good movies that make the world seem like a better place!

alright. i should go hit the books again. test in 6 days! *freaks out*

i feel liberated. like the pressure in me's all released. i feel free - free from the ghosts of the past. i can smile again. =) now to pick up my things and move on to better and more important things.
