WAS supposed to be vege with oyster sauce. damn i need garlic and cornstarch.

as usual, i can't estimate for nuts. too much water. and the ayam brand oyster sauce tastes/smells more like vegemite. hmm. should have gotten the LKK one instead although it was slightly more expensive. =( still better than the woolies one i guess. chicken essence.

added one small packet of honey to it too! yummy.. slightly sweet and fragrant. i like...

ok i just realised my blog is becoming like a food blog.

nvm. the last possible thing that can go up now is my tomyum beehoon. =P

thats until i go down again to get my chrysanthemum and luo han guo.. hehehehe..

my first ever attempt at making barley water!
not bad for a start. although i have no idea how much barley to add! and for that little pot, i had like 7 sachets of sugar! is that normal?!
ended up with one cup (above) plus half of my thermos cup. =) happy happy.

living overseas makes you appreciate the little pleasures in life. like barley water.

maybe i'll buy the chrysanthemum and luo han guo too! hehe see how.

boiling it for a second time. make full use of it! with less water of course. =)

bought tom yum paste, beehoon, instant oats, chai sim and oyster sauce too!

maybe i'll cook the chai sim over the weekend considering how i'll be away at bruny and snug next week! unless.. i bring them over and cook! =) wahahaha! that will be cool!

will be staying mon and tues night so will only be back on wed night! =)

now for my homemade condensed milk for my barley seeds!

1. pour milk and bring to a boil
2. reduced to half the volume
3. add sugar to taste
4. boil till required consistency
5. strain (because you'll get all those milk skin things)
6. store for up to 3 weeks!

tada! ok ignore the burnt part alright? its the sugar! and the volume was too small. was soo yummy! can't believe i'm actually cooking by myself!

mummy aren't you proud of me? =)

finished product! just barely enough to coat all my barley seed. which is alright considering how sweet it actually is. hehehe..

yummy....

presenting to you, my lunch for today! =)

went down for lunch and it was bad. carrot soup?! and cold lunch on a cold rainy day. just great.

came up and decided to cook my ddeok bok ki! spicy rice cake! =)

unfortunately i didnt kope any ingredients from the salad bar so its just rice cake and the sauce.

yummyy... spicy too! awesome!

i'm a happy little girl.

hello! i'm back from wineglass! =)

so tired right now.

although the hike up was less tiring than before. maybe its psychological. cos i was expecting myself to DIE. hahah!

so glad its now over and i can finally concentrate on my books! =) feeling more at ease right now, now that i'm in touch with my books once more. you dont know how insecure i was feeling!

most of the pictures are in everyone else's camera so i'll just leave you with a few from my camera.

jac3 and br7an.

sinhu1 and i! =) miss this girl so bad!

the weather was awesome! sun, sea and the sand! was walking along the beach with the waves splasing up to my knees. freezing at first but got used to it after a while. tried to walk to the end of the beach but realised we wouldnt make it back in time.

note: the end of the beach is somewhere between just1n's and br7an's head in the photo above.

went seashell picking and they're hugeee as compared to what you will find in singapore i guess!

no i didnt pick up the eraser too. its MINE.

The family is sitting at the dinner table.

The son asks his father, "Dad, how many kinds of boobies are there?"
The father, surprised, answers… "Well son, there's three kinds of breasts.

In her twenties, a woman'sbreasts are like melons, round & firm.
In her thirties & forties, they are like pears, still nice, but hanging a bit.
After fifty, they are like onions."

"Onions?"

"Yes, you see them, and they make you cry."

This infuriated his wife and daughter so the daughter says, "Mom, how many types of "willies" are there?"

The mother, surprised, smiles and answers. "Well dear, a man goes through three phases.

In his twenties, his willie is like an oak tree, mighty and hard.
In his thirties & forties, it's like a birch tree, flexible but reliable.
After his fifties, it is like a Christmas tree."

"A Christmas tree??"

"Yes dear, dead from the root up and the balls are for decoration only."

i think we're gonna play laser tag and arcade tmr morning!! =) yay!

its $12 for 2h unlimited! this is probably one of the better deals around considering how one arcade game already costs $2.

i'm feeling less stressed about the exam right now considering i have been studying but somehow i'll always feel inadequate. like there's something missing. like i could have studied harder or i shouldn't have done this and that. there's always guilt in exams. and i really hate it. and you'll only feel better once u see your results, assuming that you've done well.

and then you forget all about that feeling and happily go on with life till you get to the next exam.

the long 3 months hol and thus long 'hiatus' from exams has made me a little more frightful of it. maybe because the workload is much heavier this time around. its scary but at the end of the day, no matter how hard things are, we'll get through them. and then we'll look back and think that it wasn't that bad after all. how did we survive that?

i've done some mcq questions from past years and looked through the SAQs. i think i'll be fine. probably just need to go through the stuff once or twice more to get it really ingrained into my brain.

questions/quizzes are awesome ways to test yourself. even talking to your friend about stuff makes you think and then helps you remember so much better. =)

for now, i'll just go sleep on my notes and hopefully some stuff will diffuse in. hahaha!

oh yeah. forgot to mention this!

i got invited to join the 'Golden Key International Honour Society'!

it's for the top 15% in uni and it has university chapters in australia, canada, malaysia, new zealand, south africa, UAE and the US!

decided to join it since the vice-chancellor wrote a letter to accompany the invitation. =P

forgot to flip the letter over to see when is the date for the certificate presentation so i just said that i'm not attending. now that i know when it is, i guess i could have attended it! =( nooo.... oh well.

its easter break!!!

woohoo!~

despite the shitty timetable, i'm feeling quite happy actually. =)

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

80s/90s on friday night! it was awesome! miss these people so so much! this yr is so different with s1nhui, an1ta, r7an etc! =( oh well, life goes on but it's awesome to be able to meet up and hang out with them once in a while.

the songs they played were a little dodgy cos i didnt know almost half of them despite it being 'my era' but i think the song that got me really high for a while was 'hit me baby one more time' because i actually knew the lyrics! and almost the whole hall was singing along! haha! no one was really dancing.

this is the first time i actually enjoyed a jane party. its the company that matters. really. the songs can be like shit but if you're with good friends, its all that matters!

as to why my dressing is so err.. was thinking of the neon theme alright! hahaha! neon green headband with neon pink top. was too cold that night to go without the white top.

suman and sinhu1's birthday! suman had a pair of starry blue elton-johnish glasses while sinhui1 had bunny ears (EASTER!!). so cute!

ashl3y and just1n arent in the photo because they came late. anyway, the pizza was awesome! they came in halves so 2 pizzas had 4 flavours!

we had tasmanian seafood, thai seafood, smoked salmon/brie cheese and satay chicken! we shared this among 3 of us. and we still couldnt finish it. hahaha! we had complimentary garlic bread pizza in the beginning too!

i love walking back at night. the numbing cool breeze and the stars just make it oh-so-romantic. but only if we're in a group. no way will i walk back by myself!

this yr is starting to look more interesting. thank goodness. =)

thats the view outside my window this morning!

not sure if you can see but there's snow on the mountain! =)

blardy mist.

hahaha!

school starts at 3pm today with only one tut! awesome! but there's SS5 mtg later on. and the easter camp is now a day trip! yay! which means i've more time to study and there's less stuff to worry about. whee~!

easter break starts this thurs! so its a 3 day wk this week! rather slack if i can say so myself. loving it quite a bit because that means i can use the time to study. hahaha!

its so horrible how the easter break is now a SWOTVAC for us all. =( its meant to be a holiday!!

how pathetic. boo!

80s/90s tonight!

first party of the year! for me.

and probably the last (for this semester). hahaha!

need to be serious after tonight already.

only reason why i'm going is because i need to relax a bit and besides, i've finished most of my work already. and there're people i know going so it's going to be fun! =)

and its dress up! although i'm not sure how i'm going to look. hahahah!

hope its gonna be fun!

whee~!

Thursday, April 02, 2009

michelle is officially stressed over her mid semester exam on 16th april.

she doesn't want to go for easter camp but has no choice.

she has learnt as much this semester (thus far) as she did last semester.

this is not good.

not liking this one bit at all.

thankfully, this semester is a little more logical than last semester.

phew.

a must-watch!

Sunday, March 29, 2009

another insane week ahead!

the timetable reads 30h. madness. another week of many many lectures again. just because they cancelled before. oh well. guess its now or never. i'd rather be bombarded now than later on and realise i've not enough time to revise or something.

today was cricket/softball finals. girls lost against fisher but guys won. anw as usual, barbaric behaviour was witnessed during dinner. table banging (for the fun of it) and players running in in triumph (hopefully). but somehow this year seems more rowdy. it was quite funny cos we were seated next to this group of 5 girls and all of us looked at each other and we shared the same sentiment about their behaviour! its like b.i.m.b.o.! to the max.

oh well.

age gap age gap. HAHAHA.

okok back to pharm log book. tmr's the vivas! jiayou jiayou!!

  1. airway anat 1
  2. airway anat 2
  3. URTI
  4. Antiplatelet drugs
  5. Viral Respiratory Infections
  6. biochem markers in MI
  7. Pulmonary circulation
  8. anticoagulant
  9. food allergies
  10. asthma
boo. long week ahead..

Saturday, March 28, 2009

this is my 500th post! i've come a long long long way i guess. =) chronicling my transient existence here. always thought it would be so awesome if one day, your decendants (be it children, grand*xchildren) can read about what their ancestors did once upon a time. when people still cooked using fires and drove cars running on petrol.

scary isnt it? it's like everyone can become an Anne Frank. a diary that one day can be read by thousand even after your time. pictures of your ancestors all over the web. pictures/videos of what life was now back then.

just realised that i'm probably going to chronicle my medical student life and beyond here. maybe when i reach the beyond stage, i might just stop blogging publicly. all the various rules governing patient anonymity etc. maybe if my life outside work isnt as boring as i think it might be, then there's a chance that i will still continue i guess.

kind of need something to remind me about my life. my memory's so bad. about my achievements, my victories, my sorrows.

its 11am on sat and i'm left with two lectures which are probably going to take up quite a lot of time. thorax anatomy and ischaemia/infarction. plus i've gotta do my pathology tut and revise for my pharmacology viva interview on monday too. busy busy!

but thankfully everything's working out just fine. i'm so happy. =)

Friday, March 27, 2009

ok so much for complaining that i don't have time.

here's all the samples i've gotten from all the various websites! =) yes, i'm been that bored. hahahaha!

from left (clockwise): vital gr3en (nutrient and enzyme rich superfood!), 1.5ml bvlgari omn1a green jade perfume, sachets of veg3sorb moisturiser, viva la juic7 perfume from juicy coutur3 and herbalife nutritional shak3 mix!

more's on the way.

hahaha what cheapskates. but i love it! muahahaha..

seriously i love getting mail.. especially mail with stuff in them! hehe!

i'm a happy little girl right now.

besides, i get to try all these wonderful products which i may recommend to my friends too!
i just realised how frivolous my posts are. but sometimes it's just that my life is so boring that there's nothing much to it except medicine. i wish this year was a little more interesting. unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case.

this post is going to be really random. you have been forewarned.

everyone's bogged down with work and sometimes it just gets to you. you become so sick and tired of it all, you just want to give up but you know that it's not possible because at the end of it, you're still going to have to complete it nonetheless.

i want to decorate my room more. i want to make it cosier. i want to change the look of it. somehow, it seems to lack something. something a little more personal. everywhere i turn, i see books. reminders of my student life. but nothing much that reminds me of who i am or the people around me. it's a stressful room to be in actually. you feel compelled to study all the time. being right in the corner also means that you dont get many visitors (which is good). unfortunately, some inconsiderate neighbour speaks with a loud squeaky voice and talks loudly at the weirdest hours of the night.

i need to pack my room too. maybe even rearrange it. i need change and i love change. change keeps things fresh and makes me feel like i need to adapt again. being too comfortable makes me complacent. maybe i'll consider moving my stuff around during easter. or maybe not. i'm too lazy.

i guess i've become a little more anti-social this year. simply because it isn't as fun anymore. meals aren't crazy, noisy and loud. people are a little more emotional this year. things have changed a lot. no wonder someone commented that despite all her years in college, you don't have a sense a belonging because people come and go. one day, you wouldn't even remember who they are.

i always wondered what it will be like to be friends with everyone in college. to be the one that gets invites to all the parties and actually attends them. would life be more interesting then? i guess it would but at the expense of?

i think i need to get a life. a life outside jane. a life outside med. thankfully, there's the soka group now so i don't have to hang out with the same people almost 24/7. not that i don't like them. it's good to have a separate group of friends to hang out with. =)

been more homesick this year than last year. maybe it's a good thing in a way. i just miss being around familiar friends. unpretentious friends whom i can be myself when i'm with them. i'm trying my best to be myself this time around. to be who i truly am. if i'm going to offend someone, so be it. i'm not going to bother being little miss nice anymore. besides, it probably says a lot about you if you can make me not like you in the first place.

i'm not saying that i'm perfect. i'm just saying that i've been much more tolerant than i have ever been. if i cannot stand you, i will stay far away from you till i have 'recovered' from my phase. and then it will be back to normal because by then, i would have accepted that that's just being you and all's fine by then.

i try not to hate the person but if i have something against, its against the action. inconsideration, arrogance, hypocrisy etc are some traits that i cannot stand.

having said that, i shall stop my rant now. no names are being mentioned here. although for those who know me, you probably know which part of the story you fit in. =)

or even better, those who have heard the rants in real life, probably can guess the other characters in here too!

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

omg im soo tired right now.

we just had this racial harmony day thing and as usual, SS5 was selling food to boost our pathetic coffers.

so this means that i've been up since 7am and went up to christ to cook once more, went for lessons, headed back to cook again and then finally had the food bazaar thing down at the ref steps.

i think at the end of this, i'm gonna sooo able to cook sia! hahaha!

it was fun yet frustrating at the same time because the stupid 'authentic' malay curry powder which we used at the end was crap. we ran out of the A1 curry paste so they went to woolies and instead got that. in the end we had to use jeremy7's personal stash of the A1 curry paste. plus salt. and chicken cubes. and onions. hahaha! it was quite nice at the end of it. =) phew. oh yes and i suddenly miss the coconut milk that we have back home cos the ones here are like 0.o

was kinda tempted to kope the KARA coconut cream they had at breakfast! (we're still wondering why it's there. to add to yoghurt?!)

our bandung ended up like strawberry milk simply because its STILL the wrong brand. yes its a glass bottle but it's not this one! whoops. probably should have given them a bit more information. like blue cap with some cheena pattern on the sticker.

nevertheless, we had a profit of ___ (shant disclose) but yes, thankfully there's profit! and the cheap source of chicken. i think the potatoes were almost the same price as the chicken! *gasps!* and the milk was the one that pushed our cost price up uP UP!

okok i'm gonna take a shower and have a short rest before studying. i STINK right now. curry, potato, milk etc. ewwwww...... not fun at all.

and we might be on TV! cos southern cross was covering the event (yes tasmania has THAT little news to cover) and the camera was right in front of me. not in front of my face but just across the table because he was shooting our food and our stall. erps.

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

this week is insane. there're so many lectures (and they have already cancelled a few!). don't they have a planner.. spread them out people! the past few weeks have been slack because you keep cancelling lectures.. and this week is worse than 'normal'.. boo!

  1. hypovolaemic drugs
  2. capillary fluid movement
  3. special circulations
  4. Diet and CHD
  5. Thorax Anatomy
  6. Hyperlipidemia Drugs
  7. Abnormal Accumulation of Fluids
  8. Rational Prescription
  9. Bone Marrow and Haematopoeisis
  10. Ischaemia and Infarction
not fun at all!

thankfully i've finished 3 of them already. =) i'm really proud of myself right now. hahaha!

Monday, March 23, 2009

Ah Beng was on a motorbike with Ah Lian after a durian shopping trip.

Ah Lian was holding on to 2 big bags of durians when they rode over
a hump, Ah Beng heard a loud bang.

He asked Ah Lian: 'Lewlian wu kalau boh'?(durians got dropped or not?).'

Ah Lian shouted: 'boh kalau lah!'

So Ah Beng continued with the journey. When they reached home, Ah Beng got down from his motobike and was shocked to see that Ah Lian was not wearing a helmet.

He asked Ah Lian: 'Where is your helmet?'

Ah Lian was very angry and replied: 'Just now I already told you'

'boh kalau' (helmet drop)!'

Thursday, March 19, 2009

let me present to you my latest toy!

just put her together today and tried pumping it up! =) it works! (duh)

shared this with elvin3. each person $22.

besides, i think i might get to keep it since he probably doesnt need one at home! hahahaha..

why did we get it? cos we realised we need to practice taking blood pressures. we're so shit at it. so clumsy! whoops!

The Koala And The Lizard

A koala was sitting in a gum tree, smoking a joint.

A little lizard walked past, looked up and said,
'Hey Koala! What are you doing?'

The koala said, 'Smoking a joint, come up and have some.'

So the little lizard climbed up and sat next to the koala where they enjoyed a few joints.

After a while the little lizard said that his mouth was 'dry' and that he was going to get a drink from the river.

The little lizard was so stoned that he leaned over too far and fell into the river.

A crocodile saw this and swam over to the little lizard and helped him to the side. Then he asked the little lizard, 'What's the matter with you?'

The little lizard explained to the crocodile that he had been sitting with the koala in the tree, smoking a joint, but got too stoned and fell into the river while taking a drink.
The crocodile said that he had to check this out and walked into the rain forest, found the tree where the koala was sitting finishing a joint.

The crocodile looked up and said,'Hey you!'

So the koala looked down at him and said, 'Shiiiiiiiiiiit dude...How much water did you drink?'
"Nurses aren't supposed to laugh." Frank declared.

"Of course I won't laugh, I'm a professional
nurse. In over twenty years I've never laughed at a
patient."

"Okay then," Frank said and proceeded to drop his
trousers, revealing the tiniest man thingy the nurse had
ever seen. Length and width, it couldn't have been
bigger than a AAA battery.

Unable to control herself, the nurse started giggling then

almost fell to the floor laughing. A few minutes later
she was able to regain her composure.

"I'm so sorry," said the nurse. "I

don't know what came over me.

On my honor as a nurse and a lady, I promise it won't
happen again. Now tell me, what seems to be the
problem?"

"It's swollen," Frank replied.

Things went downhill from there.
wonderful. one of our tuts just got cancelled and the tut i just had lasted barely15min. today has been a waste of time so far. considering i spent almost half my afternoon doing that 15min tut. dang! oh well.. shall go read my coagulation now that i dont have to read septic shock. hopefully i will be prepared for it. there's so much to revise yet so little time. boo!

formal dinner again tonight with i think SS5 mtg after that. then i'll have to read my antidysrhythmia drug and thrombosis/embolism notes before tmr's lectures!

thankfully i've finished my pharmacology tut and i'm not presenting this yet. so that leaves me with more time to study. hopefully! hehe..

easter camps confirmed! we're heading down to wineglass bay! finally......
Monday again! time's just whizzing by without me knowing it. soon, it will be time to go home! hahaha but obviously before that, there would be exams (groans). haha!

the weeks seem to be getting less tiring and thats good. but we're having more and more t2-5 lectures which is bad. those are soooo boring. bleah.

  1. revise septic shock
  2. revise coagulation

  1. anti-arrhythmia drugs
  2. thrombosis/embolism
  3. pathophysiology of hypertension
  4. transfusion
yay cool shit. fewer lects = more time for revision!

ok i'm off to breakfast now! gonna come back and read my septic shock and coagulation. there're tut/pract later with no tuts uploaded. zzz. its happening again..

Saturday, March 14, 2009

alright so its almost 5pm on saturday! =( time just flies when you're enjoying yourself studying!

things to finish by tmr! =S

  1. KFP posts 1 and 2 (by 22nd)
  2. Embryology
  3. CVS tut
  4. Pharmacology tut (not really. since the tut's on thurs.)
  5. Pathology tut (dont even know when the tut is)
plus i need to start revising for my pharmacology interview!

definitely not going for the recce trip down to coles bay tmr. ich habe viele Hausaufgaben zu tun. =)

Thursday, March 12, 2009

chanting tmr at andy's at 7pm! =) he'll be picking me up at 6.30pm then probably heading to town to pick up more people. yupyup!

tmr's gonna be 3 different consecutive lectures with the SAME GUY! omgg. someone just kill me. and unfortunately, its PANCAKE DAY tmr but we're down in clinical school!! dammit! we missed it last yr as well cos it was down in clinical school and we were up in sandy bay. this yr its the other way round. cmon man, plan properly!!! =(

just finished reading lilly's heart failure. seriously, lilly is DA BOOK man! i'll recommend it to anyone anytime! its awesome! its like the bible at the moment. hahaha! almost.

alright super tired already so i shall head off to bed.

but before i go!

happy birthday ruth! <3>

Monday, March 09, 2009

i really really hate tuesday. they're the full on days with mornings packed with lectures while the afternoons are presentation/lectures/clinical skills depending on which half you're in. followed by case wrap up which is really a waste of time. by the time it ends, its already 6pm. boo. and what time did i start? 9am. with 1h lunch break. but that marks the end of the week's case. and wed brings with it a whole new case and onslaught of lectures.

i just love thurs. although this thurs my lovely thurs will be taken up by KFP. =( thursdays are my buffer days. they make me feel alive again. they make my week that much better. then its fridays and whee before you know it, its the weekend already!

here's my weekly to-do list. doesnt seem too bad now does it? =) unlike 1st week.

  1. drugs for heart failure
  2. physiological basis of heart failure
  3. atherosclerosis
  4. embryology of CVS
  5. advanced ECG
  6. CVS monitoring in ICU
plus integrated pract on thurs. gotta revise a little before that too because there're always formative quiz qns during practs which are soo good at making sure you're on the right track!

despite the heavy workload, i'm loving it all. like really really. i dunno what i will be doing if im not doing med. (ok i do. TCM.) but yeah studying is painful at times but i guess you'll get through it all at the end of the day and the satisfaction is sooo gratifying..

prob heading off to sleep soon. tireddd.. presentation tmr! wish me luck! =)

for once i think this is something really funny despite it being soo sarcastic. =)
i'm in the library now. was in the reading room studying so decided to take a break for a while and make use of the free internet. =)

ended up not going for laser tag cos there werent many people. maybe next time. besides, i think it was $15? rather save that money and use it on something more useful and tangible i guess. something that can be kept/put in my room or the likes.

just left with the lecture that we didnt have and i'm done with all the mindmaps so far! probably go through all of them again and read the next lecture notes on heart failure. so much physiology this time around! =( duh. its cvs and respi. what am i to expect.

somehow when im in the library i dont seem to surf that much but when im in my room, i'm clicking all the various links and exploring the virtual world like crazy. bahh. i should bring my notes out and do it here so that i can use the com too! hahahaha! yupyup! 45min to lunch! sunday lunches arent that bad so i guess i'm happy! hehe.

plus its a holiday tmr so i'm even happier! whee~! although this is probably the only long weekend i'll have this semester. took a look at the calender and wasnt really happy at what i found. dammit. plus i've got tests the day school reopens after easter break! so that means easter will be spent mugging my head off apart from the 2 days at easter camp. booo!

quite no life right? oh well. guess there isnt much i can do about it but make sure i'm on top of things so that i wouldnt have to burn midnight oil just to get through it all. =)

*it feels so good to know that you're not lagging in your work while the people around you are struggling. i'm just an ass. =P

well done. KFP was cancelled today cos the mum forgot about it. >< well that means i've got more time to finish up my work and then we'll see what happens! going again on thursday this time. zzz. kinda sick of this man! can't wait for it to be over...

KFP tmr! meeting them at 1.15pm down in town so hopefully we get there by 2pm. wanna get back asap so that i can get work done!

from the looks of it, i dont think i should go play laser tag on sunday since it isnt something i haven't done before and i really need to get these mindmaps done plus the presentation slides for tues.

okok better get down to work and get something down now or else i wouldnt be able to go to huon on mon. or maybe i shouldnt go. although its extremely tempting with all the fresh produce and stuff, i guess i kinda can get that from salamanca too. =( besides, its $6 for entry! and it would be quite retarded if i go without buying anything but i cant bear to part with my money! haha!

alright i shan't go. i shall be a good girl and finish up my work by monday, hopefully revise the past few weeks work and get the slides all done! would be a bonus if i can even finish my KFP discussion posts too!

wow now i seem overwhelmed with work. or its just that i'm making it sound like a lot. HAHA! guess it kinda depends eh? shall put up a new to-do list!

  1. KFP discussion posts 1/2/3
  2. Lipidemia
  3. Coagulation Physiology
  4. Endocarditis (techinically we didnt have this lecture cos the lecturer was AWOL)
  5. Valvular Heart Disease
  6. Platelet Disorder
  7. Coagulation Tests
  8. Coagulation Factor Deficiencies
  9. Descriptive Epidemiology
  10. Role of Clinical Trials Powerpoint
alright time to head back to the books. lipidemia! hahaha! can't wait to get that outta the way. been there for too long. wayyy too long man. as well as coagulation physiology. =(

had ECG pract today! and er had a minor scare because of the horrible elevated ST interval right smack in the middle of lead 1. this was taken by al3x. when i showed this to the tutor she was like 'err you're biphasic for lead 111, aVL, and aVF. this is odd. cos i cant seem to find your electrical axis. and your ST interval is a little weird too. do you want to do it again? i'll do it for you this time.'

and this was the second result. still not the best so did it a third time and i think it was still a little elevated but wasn't as bad. i handed it up tgt with my pract sheet so i can only take a photo of it once i get it back. =P

so, any cause of actual concern at this point in time? i dunno! haha but if i'm scared i guess i can go see a doc and bring my ECGs along. we only did the limb leads this time around. maybe when we do the chest leads next wk (or the week after) then we'll see how it goes. haha!

i shouldnt be complaining since and7 had it worse. he was told 'you might want to go see a doctor about this.' HAHA. apparently he had weird deflections. whoops. not good.

advantages of being a medical student eh? free ECGs as many times as you want.

unfortunately mine had terrible baseline wavering. maybe i wasn't relaxed enough. boo.

played with the stethoscope today! ok this might seem trivial to most people but being a doctor means you have the power to wield the stethoscope proudly.

unfortunately, its harder than it looks! especially if the surroundings are noisy. so for all my readers out there, please keep quiet when the doctor i'm taking blood pressure (if you're unlucky enough to be my guinea pig!

blood pressure was fun! finally got to listen to the sounds of Korotov. =) now i know what the doctors are looking out for when they place the diaphragm at the cubital fossa, listening to the turbulence formed in the brachial artery when it is occluded and then slowly released. always thought it was a gushing sound but i guess common sense should have told me that it would be a pulsating sound (just like your heart beat).

now i feel more like a doctor as compared to last yr when we barely did anything. the MSK examination was not even diagnostic of anything! apart from ACL tears etc. at least now we auscultate the heart sounds and listen for murmurs etc. unfortunately, most of us would be normal so that wouldnt allow us to listen to any pathologies. =(

something funny but mean happened during clinical skills. Friend K (who happens to be a little on the plump side) was asked to be our volunteer for examination as he was the only guy around. while we were feeling for the apex beat, friend J asked what would we do if the patient was female. GP was like "oh you just have to try moving the breast out of the way" and while he was saying that, he was unfortunately pushing away K's manboobs. ><>

select above for a snippet of things that happen during clinical skills.

tmr's a rather slack day so i shall try and finish up another mindmap in between lessons. =)

Monday, March 02, 2009

  1. cardiac cycle
  2. lipoprotein metabolism
  3. lipidemia
  4. coagulation
  5. hypertension drugs
  6. infectious endocarditis
  7. intro to lab tests
  8. cardiac pressure
  9. valvular disease 1
  10. valvular disease 2
  11. coagulation 2
oh wow. another friend's getting engaged. and i thought this would only happen when i'm about 25 and not when i'm only 20 (+1)! makes you wonder when you would meet the one huh?

whatever. i've too much to do to bother right now. thank goodness i start at 1pm today so that means i've a few more hours to go. better start reading more things! although i've already read lipoproteins and cardiac cycle after breakfast. =) so hardworking! haha! no choice i guess. tmr's gonna be a terrible day. 9-6pm with only lunch break and i've got to get down to clinical school during that break as well.

this is what happens when u realise your socks still aren't dry cos they didnt get space to spin around in the dryer cos of the laundry bag.

thankfully the dryer was working. once i had to do this for ALL my clothes! =( considering my room had little space for the clothes rack.

PS. before you ask why my socks are in the laundry bag tgt with all the underwear, its simply because somehow the washing machine loves eating my socks and they disappear! resulting in a pair of mismatched socks. so yes, in order to save myself from the trauma of missing socks again, i decided to dump them into the laundry bag too!

hahaha!

PSS. SS5 mth tmr again at 5pm. nooo.. tireddd.. haha but who am i to complain! i start at 1pm! and end at 4pm! while chri5tina starts at 9 and ends at 4 with NO break! simply because her pract last wk was rescheduled because the lecturers forgot that there was a pract in the afternoon and they all left! so poor girl has pract from 9-11 and another pract from 11-1. and 3 consecutive lectures from 1-4.

oh that sucks sooo bad.
hello people!

just got back from SS5 BBQ today! omg im sooo tired! gonna bathe in a while because I STINK of chicken wings and roti john!

more photos will be available once chri5 uploads the photos from his camera but the group shots are all with me cos his camera ran out of batt. haha!

this is jacel7n! my gossip partner! =) although we dont hang out tgt that much but she's the one person outside jane that i can click with well! hahaha! although we dont talk much but meetings and stuff are always more fun when she's around!

our 09 committee! clockwise from chri5 (why's your hair a bit weird today?), jerem7, jad3, me, faz@l, jac3lyn, chri5tina!

us at the mini swing. its only because of this photo that i realised how RED my windbreaker is.

jerem7 trying to shake the swing! hahaha! i've got good balance! HAHA! yarite. i just grab onto the railings damn tightly and refuse to move my feet! =)

alrighty. shall go bathe right now and take a short nap before dinner or something. thankfully i start at 1pm tmr. would have been 2pm if they hadn't slot in more lecture! argh. advance care planning. bleah sounds boring already.

Saturday, February 28, 2009

its 5pm on saturday and right now i'm feeling tired having studied all the way from 8am. finished up quite a few mindmaps so i'm quite happy actually. one more to go (if you exclude the other two)! jiayou! tmr's SSS welcome bbq so we're gonna have to prepare for it tonight. which means i wouldn't have tonight to study. and this is why i'm cheonging like siao now! hahaha!

have to make time for things or else i think this semester is going to be very difficult. =(

finished mindmaps for intro to pharm (hypertension), ECG 1 and Cardiac Conduction System. Working on Histo of CVS at the moment!

despite having done a few already, i still have a whole list to do!

  1. Overview of CVS
  2. Gross Anatomy of Heart
  3. Bacteraemia
  4. Histology of Heart
  5. Basic Haemodynamics
  6. BP Homeostasis
  7. Coagulation (notes not up yet)
  8. Cytokine Cascade
  9. Lipids and Lipidemia (notes not up yet)
thats all the lectures i've had this M-F week. although most of them were thrown at us during the 2 intro days. oh well! need to hurry and get through all of these! (no matter how painful it may be!)

that reminds me, i have to go do my police check tmr!

bought this shelf when i was out in town on tuesday after lessons in clinical school! i've got a new favourite shop besides chickenfeed now! its 'the reject shop'! =) hahaha

just got around to assembling it before lunch today because i've got a long break in between (finally).

interesting thing that i've always wanted to try.

'Makes Taking Fibre Easier'

doesn't that already buy you over? was wondering if i should get this or the psyllium husk one (aka fybogel) but this one sounded better. we'll see if it works or else i might get the other one once i'm through with this bottle. =)

i'm starting to get the hang of things although its still a little busy with things happening now and then. at least i've time today to get my head around all the lectures so far. really need more time. shall get off the computer after this post so that i can actually get some work done instead of just WANTING to do work. =P

my new ID card! thankfully we get a new one every year because somehow after exams, i kind of misplaced mine. =) so managed to get a new one done today without having to exchange the old one for it. whee~! besides, this picture is much better! partly because i got the lady with the more powerful webcam! hahaha! and erm my hair isnt as kuku as last yr's!

today was super tiring man. i need to get back into the rhythm of waking up early and staying awake from 9-5 for the lectures etc. so used to sleeping all day! hahaha! thankfully once the week starts proper, its actually less taxing. these 2 intro days are crazy! so full on!

i'm absolutely looking forward to wed and thurs! hehehe.. short days because i'm not going for KFP on wed. rescheduled it for another day as mum isnt free cos i think she's working again since she arranged for daycare.

dinner today was quite bad. but dessert was awesome. some vanilla pudding thing that looked deceivingly healthy. think smooth tofu pudding lookalike. until you sink your teeth into the first spoonful.... *heaven* it really looked very nondescript and i didnt think it would be nice!

never judge dessert by its looks.

view from my room! much better than the view of the bus parked outside my window last year for sure!

unglamarous part of my room that still needs some tweaking. need to put up hooks to hang my hanger thats hanging off my laundry rack at the moment. *stares at where the cap is*

my bed! and the tv that's on the floor this time around. should go get the chickenfeed shelf if its still available. *oh no not more stuff!*

my bottom and top shelf of books, my table and printer that's on the floor and not under the bed due to space constraints! rubbish bin's next to my table and is hidden away from sight. =)

so that's presenting my room to the world after one whole day of unpacking, sore arms and still super tired despite waking up only at 8.30am.

off to discussion mtg in about 20min! this is going to be a first! hahaha!

PS. just a reminder of what my room used to be! while in the midst of packing up for the year.

now you know why i love my new room as compared to the rat hole i was in last yr. although that room does hold quite a bit of memories of the fun times we had. aww.

Saturday, February 21, 2009

i'm back! =) will post pics of my new room once i've unpacked everything. just left with one chinaman bag worth of clothes! omg i'm like in love with my new room! its the perfect size for me. not too big yet not too small and its convenient too! awesome!

off to the airport in 6hr! everything's all packed and ready to go.. finally.. hahah! found out tt elvin3's on the same flight with me! so thats gonna be really cool.. at least there's someone so it'll be less boring but it doesn't mean i NEED someone to go back with me. i'm totally cool about travelling on my own. that was how it was when i came back this time around anw. =)

gonna miss you peeps again but 4mth will soon be over and before any of us knows it, i'm back again! hahaha but i think next yr onwards i wouldnt be coming back in jun/jul anymore depending on my timetable as it's gonna be slightly different.

random note. its weird to see my toenails au naturel. looks kinda naked. HAHAHA.

differences between the male and female psyche. =) click to enlarge!

i am such a procrastinator!

and now that i'm sick, it sucks!

because i'm STILL packing!

although thankfully i'm 90% done.

Day out with the colleagues at Intercru1ses!

1. K session at Top1 KTV at Bugis! =) Would be more fun if more people were there. but nonetheless quite funny. esp that 爱你爱你爱你爱你 (drag ni....) song from eons ago..

2. Dinner at Zam Zam! 2 Mutton Murtabak, Mee Goreng and Telur Prata Besar! plus one bottle of katira, 2 iced milo and 1 coke. cost us $20.50! =) nothing you'll get back in australia. (unfortunately)

3. totally random idea to head over to marina barrage, thinking that there would be the shuttle. unfortunately, service stops at 6pm on weekdays. so adr1an asked if we would want to walk in since he said its only 30min. so in we walked. it took almost 45min and i was in flats that were giving me problems already. not a very smart move. anyway survived and now i'm back!

our beautiful skyline. remember we were all welling up with pride when we watched F1 Singapore back in the coffee lounge. and it's going to be prettier once the integrated resorts are ready!

the cranes kind of spoil the picture on the left but i guess the construction lights add another dimension to the picture. one day, this will be remembered as what it looked like BEFORE.

basically the marina barrage is a rather romantic place. not crowded (yet). although that group of teens kind of spoiled the ambience totally with the racket they were making. only problem is that the design for the ramp is rather screwed up. when we reached the end of it, we ended up on a patch of muddy grass! i think they should at least pave it up till we reach the other side.

wanted to post photos of my awful feet but i think i shall spare you all the horror. looks like i'll be trodding around in flipflops (aka thongs) for the next few days. =) not that i mind. hehe!

Saturday, February 14, 2009

on a really really random note. its exactly one yr since i left singapore for tassie.

so its valentine's day. no different from any other saturday. apart from the fact that i'm going out for dinner later with family. maybe someday i'll spend vday with the one. =)

and when that time comes, i'll make him think of ways to go budget instead! hahaha! thats more fun, isnt it?

here's a few ideas!

1. roses are uber expensive so why not make your own? besides, real flowers wilt (so they're such a waste of money!)!

get red paper and start folding your own! or any other colour for that matter. i think champagne coloured roses are awesome and sweet.

courtesy of jason! =)

2. cook for her at home!

pick her up from her place and drive her to your place. if possible, gather some buddies to be your 'waiters' for the night. but you'll owe your buddies a big one if things work out for the two of you! (although that would reduce the amount of privacy so its up to you!)

i think cooking at home would be more fun cos you can decorate the whole place and make it super romantic. it would be a plus point if you happen to be able to cook too! and in singapore's humid weather, please turn the aircon on! that would be greatly appreciated.

3. have a fun dessert that you can make together. fondue sounds good!

4. instead of heading out to the movies, rent/download dvds and watch them tgt! movie marathon movies that you both have been wanting to watch forever! pop some delicious popcorn and drizzle them with caramel. or dust them with fine salt for those who love salted popcorn. i do!

5. or get a puzzle and work on it! that will definitely take a while.. ;)

6. pamper your loved one with a massage too!

presents wise.. love coupons are cheap and easy to make!

just some examples!

7. if you're going to propose to her, make a scrapbook with all the pictures and wonderful memories you have shared together. and on the last page, pop the question in writing and when she sees it, get down on your knees and ask!

but for this, you can't really afford to go budget on the ring i guess. (cos i was actually thinking of using some long grass to make it! which is TOTALLY unacceptable unless proposing at a beach watching the sun go down)

8. or if you're like me (having watched too many dramas), light up an entire park with candles with the cliched heart shape right in the middle. tea lights from ikea would be good enough. comes in packs of 100 too if i'm not mistaken. but you'll probably need the tealight holder if you dont want the wind to upset your wonderful plan.

9. this means a picnic since you're in a park. wine would be a plus. but please, dont bring fried beehoon, nuggets etc alright!

10. last tip. enjoy yourself. no one said that valentine's day had to be boring and formal. try something different and maybe you'll ignite something within the two of you!
